Next week we will continue with the traditional multiplayer flight, flying task C. It will take place Thursday 25th of April 18:30 UTC on server VintageSeries24_Special (!). Remember the summer time.

We will use Slovenia2 again, starting from Lesce-Bled. Tasktype is "out and return".

While task C is running another 12 hours until tomorrow, task D is started now.

The fixed task for OneDesign has a new task type named "target direct". That means there is a target airport defined and the task is, to fly as fast as possible from the release point direct to the target airport. The time limit is set to 60 minutes. As it seems impossible to reach the target in time, the fastest flight is winning. If someone against expectations reach the target airport in less time than the time limit, all flights will be recalculated new with a lower time limit (55 minutes, 50 minutes ...), but I can't believe it will happen on a distance of ca. 90 km in a weak headwind with an SGS1-26.

This task takes place on landscape BFG, we start from Black Forest Gliderport with the target in Limon. Because weather is very difficult in Condor when ground is 2000 m over the sea the conditions are very good, cloud base is 1700 m and inversion height 3500 m, so if necessary you can climb 1800 m in the clouds by loosing the 5 % bonus for not cloud flying.

The task type for the other categories is "2 turn points", so again a task similiar to an FAI triangle. Weather conditions are made for ridge flying, therefor the example flight plan is on landscape AlpsE, takeoff at Zell am See. Our first Alps flight, task B, was a test flight with very good conditions, now we will try little bit worse conditions. Compared to task B cloudbase is 300 m lower, but moderate and wide thermals and moderate turbulence. Wind speed is 6 m/s against 7 m/s at task B. This task doesn't have a bonus for the airport height!

Of course as always you can fly where you want by using the weather conditions defined in the task.

Task C is finished now. Again 4 pilots is still a good result for our niche event. We have had some very close fights and - much more important - a lot of fun.

Here the overall results so far. If you want to see more details about the results and all around the series please visit our homepage https://www.baleit.no

Thanks to all flying with us, hope to see you again and maybe some new ones in the current running task D.

All are welcome, and it's never to late to try our different way to compete in Condor

I'm trying to prevent from tracking in Apps and web sides as much as possible. Have left already some sides. Now I found out that Discord tracks a lot, so I decided to leave it too.

All discussions about the Vintage Series 24, landscapes a.s.o. are moved to a very easy forum on my web side. That forum works anonym, no user creation or log in required, you can write your name on your post, but you don't have to.

It's only a start after 2 hours working with it in my usual "not-nice-but-works-style" ;-), as most of the other tools it will grow later with the needs we will find.

Haven't found (and haven't searched for) a replacement for the voice channel for multi player flights yet. If someone knows a tracking free tool I would be grateful for any tips.

The invitation link to discord is removed from my signature, all are invited now to try the tracking free forum on the web side (https://www.baleit.no).

Next multiplayer flight will be Thursday 30th of May. We will fly on landscape AlpsE starting in Zell am See (the example fpl of task D). Task type is "2 turn points".

The flight will start on server VintageSeries24 at 18:30 UTC.

The weather is very good, better than I expected when I defined it, so we have already had some very nice and fast flights.

Please remember that we changed the voice tool to TeamSpeak3, see the link to the description in the post above.

Reminder to Thursdays multi player flight. Starting 30th of May 2024 18:30 UTC on server VintageSeries24, landscape AlpsE, start at Zell am See.

As usual only the start point is defined, starting with aerotow to 1000 m your task begins immediately with release. From that point you have to fly a course with two turn points back to the start airport. The shortest leg needs a length of 28 % of the whole distance. Turn points are defined by flying, the system calculates the best distance when the igc file is uploaded on the web side. It's nearly an FAI triangle, but there is no need to close it (first calculated point is the release point, then your freely selected turn points, and finally the start point, if you return to the airport).

Everybody can fly free where he/she wants. Nevertheless I made a suggestion for a course to fly, because it's nice to fly together. You may never have flown with us, and maybe you will never do it again later, but this flight is really worth to fly. The suggested course is round about 220 km long, starting at Zell am See, heading ca. 330 degrees and passing Unterwössen on the way to tp1 over Chiemsee, then heading ca. 205 degrees to tp2 at Zell am Ziller. Finally flying a long final glide along the Salzach valley with a 20 km/h tail wind back to Zell am See. In my opinion a not to difficult flight, a good one to try to fly without pda. And of course to enjoy.

Feel free to take a plane of your choice.

There is a time limit of 90 minutes, calculated like AAT.

Here a picture of the suggested course

After a very nice multi player flight yesterday it's time to start the new task for June. Task E is back in flat land.

We will have a return task, the distance will be calculated by 5 turn points. There is a lower cloud base (1100 - 1250 meters), thermals are moderate and narrow, maybe a little bit more challenging than the last tasks.

Inspired by the Norwegian SGP the example flight plan will start in Starmoen, named Elverum on my landscape "Norge". But you are free to fly where you want with the same weather settings.

The OneDesign will fly an out and return, starting at Daytona Beach on landscape Muscogee. Cloudbase at 1450 m, weak and wide thermals. 11 km/h wind from West. Only SGS1-26 for the real fans of this nice little metal plane.

Task D will run until tomorrow, when it's finished I will change the flight plans on the servers to task E.

All are welcome to fly the Vintage Series 24.

Task D is finished now, the servers run task E.

In my opinion it was one of the best tasks we ever have had in the Series. Very exciting, hard fights, and a lot of flights, trying to beat us again and again. As the second mountain task in the Series it showed that we should do that more often. From now on we will alternate flat land and mountain tasks. Task E is in flat land, so task F will be in the mountains again and so on. But mountain tasks will always be triangles. Bolting up and down the same ridge isn't what I think is worth a flight.

Lessons learned for me in this task was: Don't ignore upper wind speed. The joy of a climb up to 5000 meters (wave?) did not last long when I understood that I had to fly next with a 65 km/h head wind. 85 km/h in a Grunau Baby is fast in my flight style, but 20 km/h over ground with nearly constant 3 m/s sinking doesn't give a good glide ratio ;-). As a "fast" thinking man I understood the problem not before I wasted 2000 m of the nice height being nearly at the same place, when I found the upper wind speed by random on the printed flight plan :-D

Came home very late when the beer was warm and the barbecue empty ...

Thanks to all fighting and flying with us, as I said, very nice. Here the overall standings after task D. Very very close this season, means a lot of fun for the next tasks. It's never too late to try the Vintage Series 24, all are welcome!

Next multiplayer flight will take place Thursday 27th of June 18:30 UTC on server VintageSeries24_Special (!). Communication via TeamSpeak3.

We will use GermanyN for that flight, starting from Hodenhagen, the airport where I made my first solo in 1979 in a Ka 2 b. Tasktype is "return".

Navigation is not very difficult there because of the freeway triangle near by.

Task E is finished now. The weather conditions gave less points than usual, so we had to fight hard. For me it felt more like I remember RL flights in North German flatland, but I think it's good to have better conditions in Condor.

Thanks to all flying with that conditions. Here the overall result after task E.
E2024.png

Task F is started now. We are back in the mountains with a "2 turn points", a little bit less wind than last mountain task to find out, how that works. Cloud base is lower too, but not too low. The example flight plan starts in Aigen (named Fiala-Fernbrugg in AlpsE, but it must be the same place. If you google both you get the same airport).

There is a short nice film on youtube about Aigen, text is German, but not really worse to translate ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_-WI0_-KBg

OneDesign uses Appalachia, start from Caesar Creek, task type "target with 2 turn points", landing at Cincinnati Lunken. Weather conditions should be nice for to compensate task E ;-)

Because I'm in vacation next week task G starts today, while task F will continue until 1st of August. The servers will run until end of next week these tasks

VintageSeries24 -> task F
VintageSeries24_OneDesign -> task F OneDesign
VintageSeries24_Special -> task G

When I'm back the servers will run

VintageSeries24 -> task G
VintageSeries24_OneDesign -> task G OneDesign

We will have a nice summer task, good cloud base of round about 1500 meters, normal width thermals, but strong with high variation.

The example flight plan takes us back to North Germany, we will fly a 2 turn points from Brambostel. It's an auxiliary airport of Faßberg, used for a summer camp in 1971. I don't know if it was used before but for sure not after that year. I have good memories about that summer camp, it was the summer before I came to school. Of course I had to make that airport in GermanyN and enjoy every time being back there.
As always it's only an example flight plan and you can fly where you want.

The OneDesign will use my newest landscape Colorado, we have a "target direct" from Las Arenas 123 km to Salida, it's a flight along a ridge only to enjoy that incredible landscape. Time limit is 60 minutes, but if someone is faster, the time limit will be set lower and all flights recalculated.

All are welcome to fly the Vintage Series 24, good luck to all and a good summer!

Nothing in Condor beats a multiplayer flight with Grunau Babies. To see another plane with that characteristic silhouette in flight is only amazing.

29th of August will be the next multiplayer flight in the Vintage Series 24. Server VintageSeries24, start time 18:30 UTC. We will use again the landscape GermanyN, starting from Brambostel. Of course you can fly every plane, but it's recommended to fly this time the Grunau Baby.

Task type is "2 turn points", time limit 90 minutes. That means, your task begins with release, and from that point you fly three legs and land at the start airport. No leg is shorter than 28% of the whole distance. Landing should not be before end of the time limit, calculation of the result is like AAT. Turn points are not defined, they will be calculated by your flight.

With that rules you can fly where you want, but for to have a good common experience, here comes a suggestion of a course, this round about 90 km triangle.
