The first season of the Vintage Series is finished now. We startet in January 2022. For me it was a very exciting and interesting journey to create a competition different than all the others with focus on

Fly where you want
Fly when you want
Fly efficient, no flight longer than a tv film

Thanks to all for your feedback and the discussion about the Series and a lot of other interesting things. A very special thank to Brad, flying all tasks in all categories and David, flying a lot of flights and nearly all multiplayer flights.

Here some statistics

Pilots: 14
Planes: 12
Flights: 226
Distance: 27 912 km
Time: 369 h

Average distance: 123,5 km / flight
Average speed: 75,6 km/h

The final result:
res2022.png
Much more important than the result is the fun we have had, and I think, we have had a lot of it. So congratulations to all trying the Series.

With the season 2022 behind us we have started the new season 2023 including the BaleIT Vintage Series Championship.

Task A of the 2023 Vintage Series is running. Weather conditions aren't everybody's darling, very strong but narrow thermals, low activity and 2/8 high clouds. "Challenging" to say it as positive as possible with a lot of outlandings until now.

Next Thursday, 23rd of February, we will have our usual multiplayer flight, always last Thursday of the month.

We will start at Homestead on the landscape Everglades, easy navigation along Miami to the north and back again possible, but you can of course fly where you want. Join in is 19:30 UTC on the VintageSeries server.

All are very welcome to try

Task A is still running until end of February, results can be uploaded until 1st of March ca. 10 a.m. UTC.

Today task B started parallel, so on weekend you can chose between task A and B. It will run until end of March.

Thermalsstrength in task B is normal with high variation, thermalswidth is wide with low variation, no higher clouds.

Task type is "2 turn points". How to fly that?

To fly is an FAI triangle, where no leg is shorter than 28 % of the whole distance. The triangle is defined by the release point, two turn points and the start point, when you return. So the release point and the start point is defined as one point of the triangle. The triangle don't have to be closed. See the picture with the calculation of an earlier flight
2turnpoints.png
Time limit is as always 105 minutes, 1:45 h.

Good luck

Task A is finished now. We have had flights from 4 pilots, it's a good start of the season. And we have had some interests without an uploaded flight, so until now it can be an interesting season.

Thanks to all for your flights, discussions and following.

Usually we have a multiplayer flight on the last Thursday of the month, in March it will be on 16th because of holidays. There will come an invitation in time.

Finally the results, congratulations to all trying the Vintage Series. Because we tell only the best 7 out of 11 tasks it's not to late to join. Welcome

March 16th 19:30 UTC will be the next multiplayer flight, earlier than usual because of holidays.

Task B is not that easy either, cloud base 1200 m, low activity and flats activity and a moderate turbulence. Moderate and wide thermals sounds better than it is. Especially the slower planes have their problems with that. But it's flyable and it reminds me of real flying. Average climb rate round about 1,5 m/sec isn't really bad. Patience is the top priority. And luck not to meet too many dying clouds.

We will fly in my old homelands, will see if the "Lüneburger Heide" is as good as IRL with that weather conditions. So we use the landscape "NorthGermany" (the old one, not the new GermanyN) starting in Fassberg. Remember, there are two runways, we will use the northern.

Task C is started now, while task B is still running until Monday.

The automatically task configuration found new weather settings, again maybe a little bit challenging: Cloud base is 1600 m, but inversion height is only 1200 m, so we will have a blue task with very strong lifts of normal width. The settings for the automatic task setter allows only one blue task in a season, so it will be the only one in 2023.

Task type is "Return". Fly where you want, but return to the start airport. You get points for the longest way calculated by 5 turn points, where the 3rd turn point is fix in the middle of the flight time.

Time limit as usual 1:45 h (105 minutes).

While task C still is running until 1st of May, task D is started today. We will have an "out and return" like on task A, see the explanations here in the thread (viewtopic.php?f=30&t=21076&start=30#p180937)

Cloud base is between1400 and 1700 m, inversion height between 2100 and 2200m, high activity and flats activity, weak but very wide thermals. I guess this weather will be (a little bit (?)) better than the challenging blue task C.

Have a nice long weekend

Task C is finished now. We have had flights from 3 pilots this month, for the bad weather of that task and the spring IRL that is still good. It was exciting like all tasks, but challenging especially for the wooden planes.

The moral winner is VL with the longest flight in the Grunau Baby, unfortunately with an outlanding at the airport fence. Very well done, I am very sorry that you could not get the score you deserve for such a good flight.

Thanks to all for your flights, discussions and following.

Here the results after task C, congratulations to all trying the Vintage Series. Because we tell only the best 7 out of 11 tasks it's not to late to join.

May 25th 19:30 UTC will be the next multiplayer flight.

We will fly an "out and return" in the landscape GTA, starting at Eagleville. The most challenging will be to find back to the start airport without pda because it's not really very visible. Flying with accurate navigation will be the key that day.

Weather is good, higher cloud base. Weak and very wide thermals with high activity give nice thermals, but we have moderate turbulence. All in all it will be a nice but not too easy flight.

Task D is still running until 1st of June, nevertheless task E is started today. We will have a task type "out". Navigation is easy, because the direct distance between release point and landing point is telling. Only take care of the time limit, landing at the right time is important.

Cloud base is between1100 and 1300 m, inversion height between 1000 and 1200m, chose the lowest cloud base and the highest inversion height to avoid from a blue task. Very strong but narrow thermals with medium activity, maybe best for the slower planes.

The flight of the example flight plan starts in Termas del Arapey in Uruguay (landscape URY), a light wind from WNW will help to enjoy the free air over the Pampas. With 450 km to the coast it will be more than enough space for the 105 minutes time limit. This flight plan will run on the Vintage Series server, when task D is finished.

Of course you can fly wherever you want.

Task D is finished now. We have had results from 4 pilots this month, that makes me happy ;-). The challenge in this task was the difficult to calculate "out and return" in combination with a high cloud base. We have had no overtime, but a lot of flights coming home too early, often round about 10 minutes. That costs a lot of points.

Only one flight with the full time of 105 minutes, VL's flight when he beat me with the K8 at our multiplayer task. Very well done. By random we got a third pilot in the multiplayer flight. He flew with us not knowing anything about the rules, unfortunately his flight doesn't got a result due to using ballast. But I hope he enjoyed the flight and will meet us again. You are very welcome.

Most exciting category at the moment is Cirrus, not really easy to get 81C - the king of Cirrus - under control, but I try hard ;-)

Finally a very good flight of AVB high in the mountains, very nice to see you again.

Thanks to all for your flights, discussions and following.

Here the results after task D, congratulations to all trying the Vintage Series. Because we tell only the best 7 out of 11 tasks with now 7 tasks left it's not to late to join.

All are welcome

Thursday 29th of June will be the next multiplayer flight. We will use the BETA of FingerLakes, only available on http://www.baleit.no/condor.nsf

Start will be at Elmira, the home of the Schweitzer planes, a good place to fly again the 1-26, but of course the others planes are possible too.

Start at 19:30 UTC on VintageSeries server.

Because task type in task E is "Out", task F will be started the day before, hope to get a task type with a return, better for multiplayer flights. So we will fly task F that day. Task E will run until end of June.

All are welcome to the Vintage Series!

Task F is started yesterday. We got a "2 turn points" with a cloud base of 1700 m, inversion height of 3000 m.

Thermal strength is moderate with medium variation, thermal width is normal with high variation. Turbulence is moderate, the max setting in the Series. Challenging for a Baby with not compensated vario, but possible to fly. Wind is 3 m/s, so maybe some ridges can help a little bit.

We will fly task F tomorrow 19:30 UTC in multiplayer on the Beta of the landscape FingerLakes.

Task E will continue until end of June, it's one of the most exciting tasks of the series until now with some very close fights. Good to see, how exciting an offline competition can be.

All are welcome to join the multiplayer flight tomorrow and / or to try the Vintage Series
