(To translate Spannlack was not so easy, the best suggestion from google maybe was tension varnish or dope varnish, so I use Spannlack in my text )
Preparing my parents house for selling after my mother died some years ago, we were three former pilots in the cellar. There we found a box with a little bit of Spannlack in it. We opened it to smell it. Wow, very old memories came back. When we had to leave the cellar later one said: "Let us smell once again".
If you can understand this, you may be interested in older planes too. In Condor we unfortunately don't get this special odor, but we have older planes to use. And we now have the Vintage Series, flying the planes up to the 70th. Some highlights
Flying whenever you want
Flying wherever you want
Fly as often as you like, but you can also participate with just one flight per month
No waiting time for the race, your race starts directly after releasing
Predictable flight time because of time limits (90 / 105 / 120 minutes, depending of the used plane)
Does that sound interesting?

Re: Do you like the odor of Spannlack?
I think in the UK we call this stuff Cellulose Dope. I used it a lot to tighten up tissue paper covering on model freeflight aircraft in my younger years. It does have a very very distinct smell! I'm unsure if this is the same stuff that is used on full size gliders though.

2019 - Get up to speed and aim for a 300km task?! maybe.....
Re: Do you like the odor of Spannlack?
Thanks Paul for this info. I think it's the same. We used the same for model airplanes as for real gliders.

Re: Do you like the odor of Spannlack?
I love the odor of Spannlack "more than anything" and I am looking forward to cover and varnish these wings.
