New flights are registered. There es a new best flight with 156,4 points.

https://skylinescondor.com/flights/8840

A word to the tasktime. There is a max. time of 90 minutes from release to landing. In skylinescondor is a time for the whole flight incl. the start in Overview. For the tasktime in this competition the two times from the Statistics side will be added. So this flight has a tasktime of 1:23:03. But remember, over is out.
tasktime.png

There was one invalid flight because of too much wind. In the flightplan the windspeed and the upper windspeed has to be 0. It's ok too if it's under 1. Because of metric and imperial systems it seems to be impossible to get exact 0.

You can edit fpl by hand (with notepad) and set wind to zero.

Typical:

[Weather]
WindDir=214.077178955078
WindSpeed=4.90304517745972
WindUpperSpeed=6.94444465637207
WindDirVariation=1
WindSpeedVariation=1
WindTurbulence=2

No wind:

[Weather]
WindDir=0
WindSpeed=0
WindUpperSpeed=0
WindDirVariation=0
WindSpeedVariation=0
WindTurbulence=0
No matter where you go... There you are...

Of course, thanks, Pit. I wanted to make it as easy as possible, so a nearly zero wind (< 1) is accepted too.

The only reason for the low wind is to prevent ridge riding while any landscape can be used. A 90-minute high speed flight with a Grunau Baby or an SG 38 along a long wall with a lot of wind is not a competition that I really like to hold.

There is a new best flight with 189,2 points. Looks like 200 is possible, because only 80 of the max. 90 minutes are used. But see the speed: 62 km/h! Of course it's bombastic weather, but it's still a Grunau Baby without ballast in flat land. Respect, well done!

I wish all a Merry Christmas!

Have to try it myself again. My best is 165, of course out of the competiton ;-)

Happy New Year all!

I found a little inexactness in skylinescondor. To determine the exact flight time from release to landing I take the two times on the statistic side, Circling duration and Cruise duration.

Did a flight today, where I had to see that it's not exact enough.

https://skylinescondor.com/flights/9241

Adding the two times on the statistic side gives a flight time of 1:30:17, what is over the max of 90 minutes. On uploading the flight I got this
ScoringTime.png
Scoring time is below 90 minutes, 14:04:52 to 15:34:17 = duration 1:29:25. I had a countdown stop watch and I know that I was under 90 minutes.

If someone has the same problem with his flight, I will accept the flight in the competition if I get the screenshot with the scoring time.

In my case it's not a problem, I'm just flying this for fun, outside of the competition, because in the unlikely event that I win, I don't want to pay myself a price. But I beat the 200, that's fun :-D

We now have a clear leader with 212 points, well done.

The Cup ends 15th january, so the last week has started. Good luck to all who wants to try.

Maybe also there is moment to buy 2nd hand (preferably) Arcus in good condition. ;) Will think about it.
@Pit_R: Or you win it here ;-). Polish your Baby and fly it very good to beat the 212 points.

And here comes the announcements for the event after the Vintage Cup (first of all to force me to finish the tools for it :-D). The Cup only was the prototype for the next one. Because I liked it it will be followed by the Vintage Series, starting on february. We will fly in three categories, named by the three oldest Condor Standard planes. (More info later).

Disappointed the Libelle's polar has been made worse. I'm sure there was good reason to do it but it literally makes it a pointless glider and useless in club class tasks. I'm yet to figure out any weather settings that allow the Libelle to excel over the likes of the ASW19. I'm only grumpy as I quite like flying it but it just isn't competitive enough in races.
@Paul_UK: Maybe in the Series it will be worth to fly the Libelle

The Vintage Cup was very fun...and a bit addicting! Thank you for organizing the event. I think everyone should try to fly the Baby cross-country, it will sharpen your skills! :) I look forward to the Vintage Series.

I'll get to partake one day! How do you fly these tasks in the Grunau if you don't have charts for the area?

2018 - Silver Badge complete - Forgot I could claim for the 100km diploma flying an out and return :oops:
2019 - Get up to speed and aim for a 300km task?! maybe.....

This will be nice.

All flights are without PDA, not only Grunau Baby.

One main point of the Series is that you can fly wherever you want. So you can decide where you want to fly, the flight plans on the server are only examples. You can use your own flight plans in the landscape you like. I'm working on a tool to create easily own flight plans with conditions suitable for the task, coming soon.

The task type of the running task until end of February is "Free" -> Fly as long as you can in the time limit. For that type I think you don't need a chart, it's enough with a compass. There will be other tasks where you have to land on the start airfield, there a chart can be helpful. I made copies from a paper chart of my favorite landscape and laminated them, that works very good, but after some flights I need them less.

All tasks on the Vintage Series will have less wind to provide from ridge riding, that will help with the navigation. Because of the time limit your not flying so far away. My experiences from the Vintage Cup, where you had to fly a triangle, was: 90 minutes time limit, fly nearly 30 minutes in one direction, then add or subtract 120 degrees, do the same after the next nearly 30 minutes and you are back at home. In the tasks on the server I used big airports, Lasham, Braunschweig and so on, so it should be easier to find home. Now on February I didn't, because there is no need to come home.

BTW: You will like the February conditions, I tried two flights with the Baby, the better one was 56 minutes, so no problem with the time limit :-D. Next time I will try the Ka 8, maybe it works a little bit better. Conditions in march will be better, I promise ...
