I created a small sheet to calculate number of pilots and spectactors a server can support, accordingly to its upload bandwidth available.

EDIT: Updated to include UDP packet header size and specify values are in kilo bytes.

Today we ran a server with everything set to unlimited. At peak 84 pilots and 4 Spectate! Users were connected. We run a 1000 Mbit server in a datacenter in Amsterdam. Pings were almost all below 100. Flying in large gaggles gives a bit of a FPS hit (around 30 FPS for me running everything on max settings). Users with the settings turned down reported less of a FPS drop and still very much playable framerates. Once the field spread, normal FPS for everybody. No glitches or freezes reported.

I think you missed the 8 byte header for UDP?

Well connections are always specified in kilobits or megabits. I have never seen one specified in megabytes/sec

In any case, divide bits by 8 to get bytes.

In my array, it's in KB per second(KiloBytes, 1 kilo = 1024 bytes), I thought KB would be more meaningful than bits for average users, internet browsers indicate download speeds in bytes.

Probably, I used the value given by Uros for a single plane location (105 bytes), and I don't know how many packets are used to send it.
I don't take in account all overhead due to joining, chat, ...

ISP's usually communicate in Mb (Megabits) per second to their costumers. That looks nicer (more).

But most costumers often think in MB (MegaBytes) per second. And some even think they get MB while in reality they only get Mb...
