port forwarding issues

Post by soaringeagle » Sun May 26, 2019 11:55 am

a couple months back port forwarding stopped working for me i think when my ip changed
i thought i was my old router or connection, but just upgraded the connction and got a new router
when i set up port forwarding and start dedicated server, or start sim in multiplayer host, i see the listing in server list, but do not see the map and task details except the distance
additonaly, no server crawler ever connects
and if i try to join the dedicated server from the same pc i get host not found

obviously somethings not forwarding right, but what causes this and how do i ficx it?

Its normal that you cant join your own dedicated server via the server listing. This isnt a port forwarding issue, its a routing issue, most ISPs will not route your public IP back to your machine from your machine. To connect to your local server, simply use the condor built-in utility, multiplayer, join and the in LAN server list, hit refresh. You should get a local IP address that you can connect to.

The fact the map and distance isnt shown is a different issue Ive never seen that. Is it possibly you are on IPv6 only?
Have a look here:
https://ipv6-test.com/

Make sure ipv4 connectivity is supported. Also feel free to run a test server and post the name/ip address here.

edit. the C2 freedom wing server is yours I assume? Indeed I can not connect to it (71.225.55.191:56278)
I do see task distance, landscape etc.

Did you manually forward the port in your router or are you relying on uPnP? Also, have you opened the correct ports on your firewall?

yu thats mine
i manualy set it up in the router
i had previously made sure the ports wer e open in the firewall, i'll check it again since i switched back t default port

i do see several servers witth thisissue fairly often.
and the weird thig is it hppened suddenly. i think whn the ip refreshed

on that ipv6 test page everything looked normal had a score of 17/20 only hostname did not show up
guessing that doesnt resolve
should it//

Which IP refreshed? Your external/public IP shouldnt matter. But of course, if your PC got a different local address from your router, you would need to update your port forwarding target on the router.

yes. It probably has its own firewall.

server list page takes a while to update.
double check your port forwarding on the router, both ports and the IP address of your PC it forwards to. If in doubt, post some screenshots

maybe found the issue, when lookin at the router port forwarding (xfinity router) i see the port, an internal ip 1.0.0.138 under ipv4 and the ipv6 address
i think that ipv4 should be the external not internal p?
i was told to just put in the port then select the device and it would automaticly fill in everything
but it filled in the internal ip
is that right?

It should be the internal IPv4 address of your PC.

However, that router is most likely not from your ISP. Your ISP probably placed its own modem/router and that needs to be configured for portforwarding as well. It needs to forward either to the xfinity or to your PC depending how you set up your network.

i noticed the ip had changed thenn so i rebuilt the ort forwards, i think with a diferent port (set in the software ofcourse too)
maybe something has changed on their network.
i'll let you know if i ever get a high enough teir of the support to know whats up
