Here is a basic car low poly. 160 poly, 374 edges 220 vertices. Would work for middle distance placements.

Here is a very simple tree that still looks 3D from above. A basic progression from the original two image planes. Its not UV mapped as you will probably want to use your own image. Very basic but it just works visually.

Hi made a better version this afternoon. The original had two distorted spheres with the outer one having lots of holes in it in the alpha channel (trying to break up the outline a bit). But to be honest it looks naf in Condor.

So I made this one - same lollipop idea but just three spheres (no outer layer), with a few natural holes (natural brushes in photoshop) sprinkled around the alpha channel. Dead easy to make - no faffing around trying deperately to delete sky and cut-out the tree from your photo.

Using a simpler sphere (24 segments instead of 32 - 16 is too small and clunky) allowed me to build a proper trunk with branches. Just backspace/merge all the little triangles at either end of the sphere and simplify the next ring down too by merging pairs of adjacent faces. Then select all vertices - deform>crumple>random a bit, stretch it in a couple diections, deform>twist it, then select random faces and move>normal to get it all lumpy looking. Do all transformations and duplications before UV mapping. Clump all the UV mapping projected bits into the middle and scale them up to fill the window - adjust the scale of the odd face where it looks stretched and off. Thats it! Simple - new bark texture looks awesome up close too.

Uuuuuuh...Hmmmmm. Oops - Tree 13 is a bit unlucky. Its just too big for V1! Tried placing a few in a town which Im building as an 'aiport' in AptCndrX (to use all my new found light tricks) and Condor "failed to create vertex buffer". Its just too many vertices for the buffer size allocation in V1.

I'll make a simpler version and post it up soon.

Aside ffrom that setback the method above is the way forward with trees. Using spheres means there are no edges of image planes visible which always look terrible. And you get the bulk of the canopy without much trouble. Toooo many V's Chris! :lol: :lol: :lol:
