...and I missed the part where you said that this will be a limtation in V2! Thats a bit of a bummer as all the objects will need to be rebuilt. Make life easy for us guys...

Use a tga texture with a small area for your transparent canopy/sunglasses/whatever. Set the alpha channel for that section to be partially transparent2/ I have not yet find a solution to add in the same texture the transparencies of a canopy. Any Idea?

I am confused by this, as this one material per object is supposed to be a limitation in V1 also. Uros is away so I can't ask him.
Maybe you have all misunderstood. It's per object in your wings file, not per .obj file

From what I understand the material is freed up when you assign and rename, at least in Wings. You will however see two materials listed in the .cx at the head of the UV map mesh co-ords. The same as when you combine objects in wings and dont seperate again before writing the 3ds.
Try the Procedure above. It worked fine for all my objects in Cape of Storms.

Here are two blocks, one with one single texture and one with two textures.
Both display fine in V1. (Sorry forgot to load screenshot to my phone).
The nice thing about the second block is that you dont have to draw a specific image for it just use existing pre-made dds colour swatches. These can be used again and again saving time.

And here is the object with two textures mapped to it. Note the differences in the material co-ords for the materials in the .cx file. A single texture is certainly less complex in the .cx but just more work in wings and photoshop. Which is a pain.
The key to this is to 'file》import image' in wings. Select faces to UV map not objects. Drag and drop the imported image onto the AUV in outliner and select diffuse. (If the ouliner list is long then 'right click 》 pick up image' then select the AUV and 'right click 》drop picked up object.). Then most importantly RC the AUV again and select 'assign to selection', RC once more and 'rename' the AUV something else. The material in wings is then freed up to be used again for another UV mapped texture. I never bother creating and colouring materials prior to UV mapping anymore as this procedure does all that anyway.

OK, your second object "twotextures" displays all faces orange in V2. So that method is not allowed, like I said.
It's not a bad restriction - I have had no problems with the many complex things in V2.

Ok cool. Thanks for giving us a heads up about this. Hmmm converting Cspe of Storms is going to be a bit of a chore but deal with that when the time comes.

Re: [TUTORIAL] 3D objects for Condor Sceneries with Wings 3D
HI,
Sorry for my poor english,
To make it clear , This usage of materials will no more be possible in V2 ?
2 objects sharing multiples materials..?? in this case One Image/material..
I first did the cube with 4 materials + default mat used by under face, then the cyl using same materials as Cube(+"glass" on the face we don't see)
worked with no problem in condor v1
(it's just a question, I had never made my object , like this.... )

Strange Xavier that you ask this Take some vacation ....OXO wrote:Use a tga texture with a small area for your transparent canopy/sunglasses/whatever. Here a sample :
One wings material for each real material, but really needed is only "glass" with 0.94 opacity and all the other one are just for convenience.
I also need sometimes to read again the subject : http://www.condorsim.fr/communaute/topic11886.html
hope v2 will not come to late......for my tired mind

You can have 1000 objects using the same material.Capricorne wrote:HI,

but
you cannot have 1 object with 2 or more materials.

OK ; OK !! Than we have to take care, not to forget some "not mapped faces" or hidden faces with the default material in Wing3d !!
That fore sure the most common use of a Now forbidden material !!

Re: [TUTORIAL] 3D objects for Condor Sceneries with Wings 3D
What I understand is you can not have a cube (one object) with one face Transparent and other mapped with the same texture because you need a material with an opacity <1 (the famous 0.94). This face need to be extracted from cube to have a second object with specific material !! Now that the texture for this Face , can be the same général texture or an other one . In this case ONE material per object is the same than one texture per object.
But i agree there was always an ambiguity between 'Materials', and 'Textures'.
Merging a lot of Objects in one big file should bot be a problem, as long you don't combine them in one object.
For the particular AirportO.cx I can not imagine that all sub-objects will also need to have the same Material and texture

I have no idea how to explain this more clearly. But I will try once more
In your airportO file you can have many objects. Each can have its own material.
