Joystick bug in Condor 3

Post by kenz » Sun Feb 02, 2025 8:47 pm

The same computer runs Condor 2 and Condor 3. Condor 2 has no problem with the joystick data, Condor 3 manifestly does. This is tested on two joysticks of different brands, but I get the same behavior.

Condor 2 (not shown) on this computer flies just fine. This joystick problem is unique to Condor 3.

It's not a calibration error, because that wouldn't explain the jumpiness. It's also not a sensor error or else 1) we would see that in the Windows controller and 2) we wouldn't see identical behavior with two radically different joysticks.

We got Condor 3 to practice with it yesterday, but that obviously didn't work out. What should be done here?

Have you got any other devices assigned that can move your control surfaces? It looks to me like there may be some conflicting ones between your joystick and something else.

Delete the Controls.ini file in Condor2/Pilots/**Your Name**/

Start afresh, see what happens.

Of course I could be way off the mark  but worth a shot I think.

Thanks for the fast response! No other devices beyond the keyboard and laptop trackpad. We're having fun with XPlane right now, but will try nuking Controls.ini later on today.

. Is there a reason why Condor 2 files should cause issues in Condor 3?

This is anti-cheat protection kicking in. Have you modified the landscape or Condor in any way?
Try on another airport, or another landscape, and see if it happens there too.

I bought Condor 3 yesterday morning, downloaded, installed it, and this was a problem we had from the very first run. We've changed nothing, it's as vanilla an install as we knew to make.

Strangely, when I try to run the most basic Free Fly in Slovenia there is no scenery, just water. And when I fly training missions with Condor 2 the scenery appears just fine. That difference was going to be problem number two for me to look into, after the joystick. Maybe the two are related?

If that really is anti-cheating, definitely not cool to break my program without the program alerting me to why. :(

If there is only water in the landscape, then the texture files are missing, and if there are other files missing (f.x. the autogen files, trees or height) then the landscape doesn't match with the hash files and you have the cheating issue. Looks like this is the reason for both problems. The size of Slovenia3 is 29,3 GB, 12.209 files and 52 folders, I guess your landscape is smaller. Try a reinstall

Reinstalling fixed the problem. Reading the forum, it seems like this anti-cheating feature has accidentally caught many people. Would the devs please consider changing the way this manifests? I admit it seems clever at first glance, making cheaters experience anomalies which seem like it could be on their computer, but reading the forums it seems to be wasting several users' time unfairly. And the optics weren't great for Condor 3 to bug in front of a bunch of excited university students.

I know they'll get over it, but is tormenting cheaters so important that it was worth shooting oneself in the foot?

I had a similar situation 3 times already! after about 1.5 hours of flight, suddenly the glider starts diving, the joystick stops responding. Once in Slovenia, once in the Netherlands. etc. I thought it was a problem with my equipment, a USB hub or something else. I wasted a lot of time trying to find the problem with my computer. After all, am I a potential cheater? How can I avoid punishment, the only thing I have modified are the glider skins.

Dear all,

I wanted to join the online race this afternoon. I had to reinstall my windows last week and also reinstalled Condor and the scenery for the race. Because the download from the condor club did not work (after 2 times 12 hrs downloading) I used a different way to manually install the scenery. Every time I started in the race I crashed with crazy controls. I spent 2 hours trouble shooting the issue and gave up. I thought that there was something wrong with my new installation or my homemade FFB joystick.

Fortunately I found this post and I resolved it by deleting my scenery. Thanks for the clear post.

Reading the post, I was reminded of the old joke it is not a bug it is a feature (anti cheat) or a bug.

Because I am a positive guy, I just assume it is a bug which I can understand that it happens, please log it in you bug list and try to make a clear error message, so in the future if someone makes an error he can fix it and enjoy an online flight rather than spend the night troubleshooting.

Thanks Michiel.
