Only getting 1/2 spoiler with MFFB2 Slider

Post by fpaynter » Sat Jan 18, 2025 7:06 pm

I have a MS FFB Sidewinder 2 that I have used for years for Condor, and I typically assign spoilers in Condor to the slider. This has worked well for me, but just recently I saw that I was only getting about 1/2 to 1/4 spoiler extension for full slider travel. I can get full extension using B/N keys so I know it's not a Condor problem. I have used my Windows joystick calibration utility to confirm the slider still provides full 0-100% response with full travel, so that appears to be OK. Any thoughts on why this change has occurred (and more importantly, how to correct it)?

Not sure I have an answer to your problem, but I have the same joystick and have not noticed this as far as I know. Given that you're getting 1/2 spoilers, I wonder if somehow your axis is calibrated to have the zero position in the center, like the X and Y axes.

Nope - double & triple-checked my Win 11 'Game Controller' setup dialog. Slider scale is shown, and responds properly to actual slider movement. Range is from 'low' to 'high' - no center position.

How do you know you are only getting 50%

I *don't* know that I'm only getting 50% - I'm only approximating based on visually comparing the amount of spoiler visible above the wing using the slider to the amount visible using the 'Airbrakes Out' (B) keyboard key.

All gliders.

I went back to C2 on an older laptop, and verified that spoiler control is correct. Movement of the slider causes a corresponding movement of the spoiler, just as you would expect from a physical cable connection.

I have attached screenshots showing my JoyToKey setup and my control assignment in Condor2.

You shouldnt use joy2key for axis ! Joy2key is useful to send keystrokes, based on button presses or in rare cases, axis movements, for instance I use it for the wheel brake "button" when I press my pedal brakes (which is an axis), as condor doesnt support an axis for progressive wheel braking, just on/off button; but that is not what you want here, airbrake can use a progressive axis.

Remove the joykey bindings, and bind the FFb2 slider in condor to the airbrake axis.

Then I went back to my new laptop and C3, and verified that with the same setup, the slider doesn't work properly. Apparently, there are only two positions of the slider that affect the spoilers. Slightly forward of physical center emulates (I think) one button press in the 'In' direction, and slightly aft of physical center emulates one button press in the 'out' direction. I have attached my C3 control assignments page and my JtK profile.

Again, its because you are using joykey to send keystrokes when you move the slider. You have configured joy2key to send 1 key stroke (moving the airbrake one step) whenever you move the slider in one or the other direction. That doesnt work. Remove the joy2key binds, just assign the slider to the airbrake axis in condor

Yep - that did it. Don't know how I missed it, but thanks! :D
