Can anyone explain the format of a saved flight track, what app can be used to edit it and whether it's possible to remove the first few mins of one, so that the 'ghost' flight starts at the same time as the real time player please?

FTR can be shown/played on Condor's Flight analysis part or posted on Condor Club. You can also convert it to IGC to get inside view.
In order to use FTR as ghost, click on Free Flight in Condor, load FTR to retrieve the task parameters and just change start time to desired value. Then go to Notam and add the FTR as ghost.
