If all goes to plan, I will be doing my Condor Club Megametre diploma on Saturday. Wish me luck. Lol
Given that I am a casual pilot with very little skill at finding lift in a fully ballasted glider and given that the gliders at my disposal are the stock ones, the ASW20 and the ASK21, I ask, “which glider would you take?”
And, Peter, do not say the Granau Baby.
1,000 KM glider recommendation?
Re: 1,000 KM glider recommendation?
Either Diana2 or Antares18S
Both have pretty similar high speed performance. Antares is slightly easier to thermal. With a descent wind and some good valleys it shouldn't be too hard to do.

Re: 1,000 KM glider recommendation?
What sort of task are you thinking of flying? Ridge, wave or thermal? or a combination?
Re: 1,000 KM glider recommendation?
I'm doing a modification of this one: https://www.condor.club/showtask/0/?id=19077
I added stronger wind, because I've already failed it once. Left at noon instead of 8 AM and ran out of day.

Kaibeth. Here's a task I created for flying over 1000km in the UK. Modify the NOTAM settings etc to get it suitable for the 1000km diploma.

Note the wind direction in my task you have a tailwind, which'll help you along the way pretty much most of the way! The one you're modifying has a Northerly wind direction and you're flying North.
I'd take the Antares. I'm confident with the settings in my task you could fly it in a STD class glider thus the ASW20 would be capable too.

2018 - Silver Badge complete - Forgot I could claim for the 100km diploma flying an out and return
2019 - Get up to speed and aim for a 300km task?! maybe.....
