Any advise to avoid blue screens?

Post by witor » Thu Oct 21, 2021 10:50 pm

After many uneventful flights without any trouble I was hit by a blue screen again...
Blue screen.JPG
Error log does not seem to contain anything related to this flight.

Does anyone have a general advise what to do to minimize chances of that happening in the future. I have already made sure that condor folders are not read only, I have excluded condor from antivirus scans, what else could I try?

I must admit that this occasional blue screens are really frustrating...

Just refer to Witor BS:

My Condor crashed also today (first time that way)

Same task, same flight, same server, same map and.. probably SAME distance to the finish line.

It was not the same place (WRW was flying close to the line and i was few km on the right.
He's Condor crashed on 26km with blue screen and my crashed on 30km with frozen screen (no bluescreen, just frozen screen with sound stucked) few minutes after Witor bluescreen.

Maybe scenery issue? (Southern Norway 4)

Ps - we both use Oculus Quest 2 so maybe that was the problem?

Hello
Bad luck today. :/ Do you have, even partially filled, LastTrack.ftr?
Please upload if possible - maybe indeed some coincidence can be found in both.
No matter where you go... There you are...

Another day and after 2h and 24 minutes of flight, not far from finish line and another blue screen... (error log file has some old stuff in it, but nothing related to the last flight)

https://www.condor.club/analysis/0/?rank=858463

Is there really nothing that can be done to resolve this once and for all?

GTX980 was at about 67 degrees with fans set to auto at 65% so I don't think it was overheating.

Post up your graphics settings in Condor please. Setting some of those lower can help.

There are also a few bits of software that can cause issues if you have them running whilst Condor is. G-force Experience is one (ditch it, it is pointless anyway), I think Google Drive may have been another.

As with any PC though the less processes running the better for performance so stop any processes running that you don't require before firing up Condor.

Also BS for me today (same as last one - VR screen stuck in one position - if i move my head i see black background. Sound also stuck. Require task manger to kill it).

Some details:

11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-11600K

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GPU GA104-A - lastest stable driver 496.49

64GB Ram.
Landscape AA2 (instaled on System/Condor Drive (NVME SSD 4TB))

BS after 1.5hour flight

Condor settings - all maxed, low trees, Supersampling on 4x.

VR with Oculus Quest 2, latest firmware on PC and Googles. 120fps/1.9x setting on Oculus (maxed)

During the flight - stable 120fps.

GPU Temp 63-66 C
GPU Usage ~40%
GPU Memory Usage ~6.5GB
CPU Temp 60-70 C
CPU Usage 40-50%, before BS rised slowly to 100% (see the attachment)

Logs:
[......]
NetPlayer disconnected: o.wuillaume.
NetPlayer disconnected: B.Steele.
Landscape refresh start at 21:52:21.
Avion.MoveGeometry at 21:52:22: Access violation at address 0040A501 in module 'Condor.exe'. Write of address 00000001.

During the flight Condor refresh scenery every few minutes with start / stopped message in logs.

My both BS ended 1 second after one of the refreshes.

Same BS with same logs for my friend today (no VR, different PC).
Also Avion.MoveGeometry ... after Landscape refresh.

Someone here with the same issue

viewtopic.php?f=32&t=20858&p=176700&hil ... ss#p176700

Sadly no fix.

Looks like you're running your PC fairly overclocked. First thing I'd be checking is whether you get the crashes with the PC running at normal clock speeds.

On my 1st BS it was on default settings - this time i raised it a little only for a performance test.|

Now i'm using lower settings than default (-200/-400 Mhz).

My conclusion - setting GPU / GPU mem clocks +100/+200 or -200/-400 doesn't affect Condor performance (stable 120fps even in cloudy day with a lot of players in one thermal).

Issue you linked is different (Draw sun blend at 17:42:50: Access violation at address 0040A501)

I think i had simmilar to this:

Read magic value, at 22:53:55: Access violation at address 00404D22 in module 'Condor.exe'. Read of address C53FFFFC.

Condor settings - all maxed,
The most common cure for the Condor Blue Screen is to reduce "Visible Distance".

Very High = high probability Condor crash.
High = Rarer crashes, but usually when you are about to win a race....
Medium = low to zero chance of failure

These are memory address failures, and it doesn't matter how "Super" your PC is, they can still occur.

Personally, I use "high visibility", because I am willing to trade off the extra distance to see far landscapes
and clouds with a slight risk of crashing.

If you are involved in a competition, you might set "medium" for that.

PDA screen 1 displays the map on the PDA, some maps are huge with high resolutions, and you can see
the influence of that by monitoring your FPS when switching PDA screens.

Thermal rendering may have an influence, scenery with dense thermal maps or low cloudbases in the flight
planner make a lot more work for your PC.

Huge sceneries with lots of objects will also suffer.

Typically, the crash will happen as you crest a high mountain and hundreds of square kilometers in front of you
is suddenly being rendered, or, you are near the crash limit, and you switch PDA to screen 1 or hit outside view
and rotate the view..... or, you fly into the zone where new scenery tiles are loading.

Good Luck

Congo, Snapcase is running with Tree density set to low however, that's another way to help prevent OOM issues based on what several others have posted on the forums over time. I run with everything maxed and Tree density set to high however I do only have an Nvidia 1070 which maybe doesn't come with as many bells and whistles as a 3060 and therefore even with all settings maxed bar Trees set to high my system doesn't use as much ram whilst in sim?

I also do not use VR or a head tracker and maybe that helps keeps memory usage down a bit as well?
