Going too fast, getting ahead of myself and bombing/crashing!
Going too fast, getting ahead of myself and bombing/crashing!
Never been into racing gliders IRL so this is a new interesting concept, one which is catching me out.
I have been downloading tasks and ghosts maybe 10 or as many on offer to at least have others in the air. Sticking some music of choice on the cans, jumping into VR and loosing myself in the mountains and hills, very relaxing. Not really following anyone as you have to wait a long time for the ghosts to get going, I also like to find my own way, right or wrong. I have been completing the tasks but certainly not the fastest, so now knowing the terrain a little more I have another go at the same task. And this is where it all goes wrong, I am focused on speed, speed, speed and more speed, not survival.
Are all these online tasks new and different every time or do they repeat? Its impressive some of the times done by the fast folks first go at a new unknown task if this is the case.
Every time I go online I have missed the race so not getting the live experience, some time tables of when races start would be great. Do the servers not offer this information?
Cheers.

Tchintchin is daily at 15:30 UTC in summer and 16:30 UTC in winter. Usually around 40 pilots in summer and many more in winter.
Competitions post their server times on condor.club website. You can register for them an receive briefings before the race so you can prepare.

Thanks, but I missed it!! Was all set for the Tchintchin. So the server is not there in the lists till its turned on it looks like, then how long do you have once its on and visible to then join. The join window seems very short?wickid wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 1:25 pmTchintchin is daily at 15:30 UTC in summer and 16:30 UTC in winter. Usually around 40 pilots in summer and many more in winter.

Fingers, I've sent you some info on the VSC Discord channel you joined up to recently as well stating our server up times, how long they're open for etc.
Different tasks are posted for each race however in between each race the server allows you to refly the task if you so wish.

2018 - Silver Badge complete - Forgot I could claim for the 100km diploma flying an out and return
2019 - Get up to speed and aim for a 300km task?! maybe.....
Re: Going too fast, getting ahead of myself and bombing/crashing!
Cheers Paul
Already tried a few of the tasks from Discord, I enjoyed Millfield to the Solway having to avoid air space. The VSC_Scotland_169km_15m one, the finish had me beat and learned a lesson in preparation. Could have easy got to the min. height: 597 ft using the energy in the glider but failed to notice and just ended up bombing out circling the field wondering why I was not getting my well deserved cheers from the crowd

That one has caught us all out at some point in time Steve. I will, in general, always set a min finish height. Now and then I'm sneaky and won't though, just to see if peeps are reading the flight plan
