Thermal Temperature

Post by Paul_UK » Wed Jul 21, 2021 3:31 pm

Hi,

I'm well aware that you set cloud base by adjusting the temperatures on the Thermal tab on the flight planner. I have a question though. What variable is altered if I set cloud base at 4101feet using very low temperatures and changing to cloud base of 4101feet but using very high temperatures?

I did a little test myself and thermals were positioned identically under both of these conditions and via thermal helpers the strengths looked comparable (not flown to test). The only small difference I noticed is the Cumulus look slightly bigger (more developed) when high temperatures are used. So I'm wondering if the variable changed is thermal cycle time?

Anyone else know the answer?

Cheers

In case my wording wasn't clear. What variable changes when I set thermals as per the below two images

OK, thanks Wickid.

If it is thermal cycle time that would be useful to know as then I can be extra nasty when creating tasks :twisted:

@Rotareneg :lol:
