PC sims

Post by Graham (GA2) » Tue Apr 20, 2021 6:34 pm

Hi,

Does anyone know of a way to link Condor NMEA output to either the XC Soar PC or LX 90xx simulators?

For XCSoar on the same pc you need virtual serial port software (HW VSP3 is a good free one - https://www.hw-group.com/product-version/hw-vsp3-single). Then it's pretty easy:

Go to windows settings, click network and internet then click on your network's "properties" button.

At the bottom note your IPv4 address (usually something like 192.168...)

Open the virtual serial port program, select any port name (usually COM3), put the IP address you noted on the "IP Address" box and set "port" as 4353. Press "Create COM". Now the port is open and ready.

Open XCSoar and on the devices menu edit a device and set it as follows:
Port: TCP Port
TCP Port: 4353
Driver: Condor Soaring Simulator

Then open Condor, go to Setup->Options and set NMEA output Port to your selected port name. It should work out of the box once any flight starts. Just make sure to fire up the VSP3 program whenever you want to use XCSoar and press Create COM. The previously used settings are saved.

Yes, thanks.
I know how to do external but what I wanted was to use the PC based software on the same (dual monitor) machine. I don't have an Android device at the moment.

Lord Archon, it works!!! :D

Thanks to everyone for their advice.
Now if only we could do the same with the LX90xx simulator it would be marvellous.

If you run XCSoar on the same PC, it's even easier to use 127.0.0.1 (localhost) as the IPV4 address

Merci beaucoup, I'll try it.
Do you use the same 4353 port number?

Probably doesn't matter actually, anything from the list of available ports on xcsoar's menu should work.
