Out of memory

Post by DerRabe » Sun Mar 28, 2021 6:22 pm

Dear all,

after downloading the big Arc Alpin map, I am able to fly for around 1 hour with Oculus VR. After that the program stops and there is a Condor 2 pop-up window with: "Out of memory" memo.

Do you have an idea, what would be a good way to solve this issue?

Software:
- reduce the video resolution? - but I actually want to enjoy it ;-)
- relocate the game from D: to C: (SSD) ?
- adjust some other limits? - which once?

Hardware:
- add some more RAM?

Here is my system:
be quiet! Silent Base 600 gedämmt Midi Tower ohne Netzteil
AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6x 3.40GHz So.AM4 BOX
16GB (2x 8192MB) G.Skill RipJaws V schwarz DDR4-3200 DIMM CL16-18-18-38 Dual Kit
250GB Crucial MX500 2.5" (6.4cm) SATA 6Gb/s 3D-NAND TLC (CT250MX500SSD1)
EKL Ben Nevis Tower Kühler
1000GB Toshiba DT01ACA Serie DT01ACA100 7.200U/min 32MB 3.5" (8.9cm) SATA 6Gb/s
600 Watt be quiet! Pure Power 10 CM Modular 80+ Silver
MSI B350 GAMING PRO CARBON AMD B350 So.AM4 Dual Channel DDR4 ATX Retail
8GB KFA2 GeForce GTX 1080 EX OC Edition Aktiv PCIe 3.0 x16 1xDVI / 1xHDMI 2.0 / 3xDisplayPort (Retail)
Gigabyte WB867D-I WLAN + Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter PCIe 802.11ac PCIe x1

Thank you much for any advice!

You might try setting the visible distance setting in Condor to high instead of very high. I think the problem is that Condor 2 is still a 32 bit program and is limited in how much memory it can access regardless of how much your system actually has.

First option I'd go for lowering is tree density. Even on the setting under the highest there are still masses of trees.

If that doesn't do the trick I'd lower then lower the visible distance.

Hardware:

16 GB is more than enough.
Make sure that other memory-consuming applications are shut down (Firefox comes to mind, especially when connected to Facebook)

Have you tested the same flight without the Oculus ?

I would recommend that you open the task manager before starting Condor so that you can check the memory usage of the different processes running.

Thank you guys for your quick responses! :)

I will test these options and come back here.

Also, send errorlog.txt to support.

I have a question ref memory usage off the back of this.

As Condor is a 32bit application it can only utilise up to around 3gb to 3.5gb of ram if I'm correct?

My question is the limit I mention is only tied to Condor yes? as in Condor will only error if it itself uses over the 3-3.5gb of memory.

Surely your system could actually be using 10gb of ram, of which Condor is using 2gb and Condor would still be running perfectly OK. At least this is my understanding of ram allocation and out of memory errors due to specific software (used to get OOM errors in FSX).

Bre has a very good idea to test without using VR. I'm probably tempting fate now however I've never had an out of memory error in Condor and I run max settings bar tree density set to HIGH.

As far as I understand 32 bit applications can only access certain lower memory addresses. If other applications have those in use too then Condor will have less to work with. Usually Condor uses a maximum of 2 GB of RAM. But this is non VR.

Thanks for the reply Wickid. That's a shame it can only access the lower memory addresses.

It now makes more sense to be running as clean a system as possible when using Condor then. I'm pretty fussy about keeping my system running as optimised as poss, I have a personal hate for bloatware and masses of programs autorunning at startup. Maybe that's why I haven't seen an OOM error as of yet....

Hey guys,

I just tested it again with just one adjustment. I only lowered TREES DENSITY from very high to high.
Yes, it definitely helped! I was able to fly 2h 10 min without any issues. :D
Thank you very much!
