Condor error

Hello,
I have such a problem. More and more often, it happens to me that Condor freezes for a few seconds when flying online, sometimes even when the game crashes. I looked at the Error log and it said at the bottom, "Condor seems to be frozen: Window: Draw HUD: 21: 38: 48: 905." I have an exception in antivirus and I don't think the hardware is weak. octave processor, 32GB RAM and 8GB GPU + SSD. No other program was running in the background. These problems were not before and are now common.

As of patches 2.14 and 2.15, these issues have occurred before. More people report it online.

Hi,
I also have the same problem. Condor 2 crashes in the latest versions, first the black screen, the sounds are still going. This takes about 10 seconds and then the application crashes completely.
I had this message in the error log:
Draw thermals at 21:44:22: Access violation at address 744E4F0D in module 'd3d11.dll'. Read of address 00000059.
Condor seems to be frozen: Window: Present: 21:44:20:424.

Hello guys,
I have the same occurence.
The problem Is occuring if I press some action key during flight (TAB key, backspace or ; key)
The freezing (lag) Is around 10sec. and after that - in better case Condor is running well
- in worse case Condor shut down.
And this issue is also occuring after two last patches.

So my questions are:
- why Is this issue occured?
- What was changed?
- Is there some possibility how to fix it?

Happened for me 3 times in online contest both when I pressed HUD Toggle - ` key (described as GRAVE in manual) - when the hang is long (seems like some tight loop because CPU is working hard) it results in getting kicked from online contest. When I often press ` it doesn't happen or the delay is shorter, hang rather after long period between presses.
Some guess - may be correlated with text messages / notifications that weren't displayed yet because HUD was hidden also many people were also flying.

Hi guys, maybe that would be the answer. Will we work to fix this error? I know from an online flight that many more people are complaining. I don't want anything extra.

I've just had an issue too, but a different error. I had just started on a multiplayer task and Condor crashed to the desktop with an 'Out of memory' error. I have 32GB of RAM in this PC and had nothing else running at the time, and had plenty free when it crashed. I'm sure Condor doesn't require 32GB of memory to run (!).

I notice from the error log below as well that it claims my video card has 3072.0 Mb of video memory, when it actually has 11GB. Probably a limitation of still being a 32 bit application, but that should be able to read at least 4GB anyway.

It's not fun when you basically have to miss out on an evening's flying because you're too late in the game for everyone to restart but a stupid problem like this prevents you taking part.

These quality issues seem to be becoming more frequent and seem to have problems with every release at this point. Doesn't speak well for the QA or testing process (if there even is any!)

There is probably several reasons Condor will CTD or black screen etc., however,
I wish to address the long pauses before resuming flight, and a possibility that the thing
I am about to describe may cause some PC's to crash as well.

I have made a discovery and it is tested and repeatable, so you can see this for yourself.
The number of thermals being generated has a profound effect on Condor2 performance
and will cause the game to stutter or pause while the CPU or GPU or combination of the two catch
up with their work. This loss of performance may also trigger or become worse as you move from
one area on a scenery to another, perhaps as new textures or tiles are loading from the scenery.

Large add-on scenery such as AA2 are the worst offenders it seems.
There are just a lot more thermals on the map perhaps.

Thermal density in Condor2 is controlled by three factors that I know of.

1) Inversion height set in the flight planner for the task.
(The lower the inversion, the more closely spaced thermals become)

2) Thermal Density set in the flight planner for the task.

3) The scenery thermal map.

If your flight plan has:
a large area scenery
a low cloud base,
a high thermal density set in the flight planner
a dense thermal map (AA2 does NOT have a very dense thermal map, it is just a huge map!)

..... then you can expect performance loss and troubles.

Certain PDA maps (PDA screen 1) are often very high resolution bitmaps and are notorious for causing
frame rate and performance loss. This will add to the strain on your PC. (AA2 is one of the worst).
These maps can be reduced in size if you are struggling with them, but expect a loss of quality on the PDA.

Add to those problems your Condor2 graphics settings (visible distance, tree density, anti-aliasing, texture quality, etc.)
and your super computer is suddenly not so super any more ...... almost any high end PC will at least be challenged.

Despite how much video ram or whatever that you have, I believe there are certain hard limits regarding memory allocation at
basic low level hardware settings intrinsic to Windows OS.

Also, Windows and your software overhead is operating as well as your Condor2 sim. Your video card driver or it's associated
software may be influencing or changing things without your knowledge (GeForce Experience?)

How fast is your SSD hard drive getting the scenery loaded? This is another area that you may believe is working correctly,
but is it really? When Condor2 needs to load textures for the next frames, how quickly does it happen in reality? Surely there
is a latency as the textures are called, processed and then finally displayed. Even the latest tech NVME PCI Express SSD's,
working in excess of 3 Gigabytes per second cannot promise a seamless interface with your Condor2 display screen!

All things together, your Condor2 settings, flight plans, Windows environment, DirectX, video driver, concurrent software,
antivirus etc. must be running in harmony, without conflicts or programming errors to avoid crashes and pauses.

I have a 30+ year history of streamlining computers, Windows OS's, software environments and game settings to make
simulators perform well. There is no easy answer, but being a minimalist will get you a lot closer to the perfect sim machine.
Keep it simple. Try to shut down auto starting software. Disable auto updates as best you can or anything that will interfere
with the smooth running of Condor.
Skype, social networking or anything running in the background can potentially cause a problem, the less software running,
the better. If your PC is used for all things, then it's possible to use a dedicated boot drive for Condor, and a minimal software
regime.
Unfortunately, not everyone has the knowledge or time to set up a simming PC perfectly for Condor2. So we do our best!

If ANY part of your computer is slow or compromised or running hot or not up to the job, don't expect ideal results.
Also, you can throw a lot of money at a PC, and you may think it should be the perfect gaming machine, but have you
really got the experience it takes to set up a clean sim machine? It is truly a challenge to obtain that goal.

Condor2 may get the odd bug that causes an issue, but the majority problems are on the user's end.

Try
TerrainVisibleDistance=3 (This does not impact much on view distance)

Many pilots must use TerrainVisibleDistance=2 ! (Will impact on view distance)

Among factors involved in the various forms of Condor crashes we also have the number and complexity of 3D objects close to your location (of course clouds are 3D objects), and the ground textures resolution.

I don't understand what you mean by "dense thermal map"? For all sceneries, thermal maps have a resolution of 90m/pixel and thermal density varies (or should vary) according to the ground type from 0% over water to 100% over bare rocks. And all PDA maps of all sceneries have the same 90m/pixel resolution...

And finally, we must not forget the simple fact that the most frequently used scenes are more likely to have crashes than others...

Hi dgtfer,

I am sorry to be ignorant of scenery design parameters. I am only referring to what I observe,
in that, given identical flight plan settings, different scenery will produce a widely different thermal density.
This can be demonstrated. BigPyrenees2 and Cascade Range are typical examples of scenery that produce
very few thermals compared to other maps, and AA2 does not seem to produce as many as a lot of other scenery.

As for the PDA map, the .bmp file is completely rendered, even if you only see a portion of it on the PDA itself.
AA2 has a HUGE .bmp resolution, and it will kill FPS when displayed on PDA screen1, it is easy to observe, and a
game killer for weaker PC's. Switching the PDA to another screen will instantly restore FPS to normal.
The higher the "sceneryname.bmp" resolution, the more FPS is affected. This can be observed on high end PC's
as well, just watch the FPS counter and switch between PDA screens :)

You forgot another essential point : the 3D objects density.

The worst landscape I have seen for that is NEVictoria2 :roll:

Last BCC :: 15 metre Class race : less than 30 FPS (we were two on that server) whereas I usually get 100+ FPS on any other landscape. "Out of memory" 30 minutes into the flight

Note : I have never experienced this kind of problems with AA2 (i5-2310, 8GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 1050Ti)

I wouldn't use "resolution" in this sense. As DGTFER say, the BMP maps all have the same resolution of 90m/pixel and that cannot be changed by the landscape designer.
It's the size of the landscape that matters and then, obviously, the larger the landscape the larger the BMP map:

I don't use or want scenarios like Viktoia or AA2. It will do it in classic Slovenia and I have my visibility down. Updates and similar things don't work for it. And it will bite in online flight anyway.
