Store scenery on an other disk.

Post by pgas » Wed Aug 12, 2020 6:53 pm

I used the conder-updater to store scenery on an other disk and i changed the condor-scenery directoy to the same. See attachment.

in spite of these changes condor still search for scenery in the original installation directory: C:\Condor2\Landscapes.

any idea what is wrong and how to solve this probem?

thanks
Paul

First one needs to be the condor landscape directory. That is the only place condor looks for landscapes. The updater will create a symbolic link to the landscapes folder where condor looks with a link to where the landscape is actually stored.

The first one IS the actual directory in which the sceneries are stored.
the updater seems not to make a symbolic link.

how to fix?

That is wrong. It needs to be the condor landscape directory (usually c:\condor2\landscapes). That is the folder the updater makes the symbolic link in

I changed the update according your instruction. See attachment.

In c:\condor2\landscapes i only have scenery Slovenia2.
the updater menu installed files shows only slovennia2 . see attachment
Condor free flight menu only shows slovenia2. see attachment.

In D:\Data Intel\Condor2\Landscapes i have the sceneries AA2 and NethelandsHD.

So the updater does not make a symbolic-link from c:\condor2/Landscapes to D:\Data Intel\Condor2\Landscapes as it should do as your wrote in a previous reply.
Is this a correct?

I reinstalled the updater with the same result.

any suggestion?

thanks Paul

CU creates symlink when *IT* installs landscape. Not after.
Instead of reinstalling landscapes, you can create a symbolic link yourself with command prompt, you find all details on Google (search for MKLINK). The link MUST be created in Condor landscapes directory and will be see as a directory by Condor. When Condor reads in it, Windows transparently redirects access to the target (ie other disk).

I use this. Maybe easier then what Thierry suggests: https://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshe ... nsion.html

If you want the Condor Updater to do it you have to reinstall the landscapes.

Yes,

indeed, a symbolic link is made after (re)install of a landschape

On my old cumputer i could copy all downloaded sceneries from a disk to another disk, changed the path in CU and it worked.
On my new computer it did not worked.

thanks for your help

I have written a small utility that creates symbolic links for landscapes

Thanks for your reply. It will fill the need for some users and will give along with the other answers in this topic a good overview of possibilities to make make symbolic-links?

Thanks again
