CoTASA has always worked that way for me as well: The flap indicator averaging seems to be much greater value than the 2 seconds the .ini file claims as default.

Hi Bre901,

Here a video I took which may help. Antares is with full water. There seems to be no difference in behaviour between gliders such as the Antares and the JS1-18 as far as the speed of flap change indications are concerned.

https://youtu.be/d23CII3zgd0

Who knows if it is the latest version of Windows 10? I also turned off other utilities such as Joy2Key and Discord. The only Condor related utility is the Comm port 10 setting to send the Condor data to a second Windows laptop via Wifi. Turning that off doesn't change anything.

Anyone with the link can watch it, but it is not set to Public. If you like I can do another one where I dive to VNE with the flap on -3 and time how long it takes for the CoTASA prompts to catch up to the correct flap setting. My testing shows a similar delay of around 40 seconds before the correct flap is indicated in C0TASA. I would have done it now, but my camera battery is flat....

Concerning the Flap rings on the JS1-18, my thought was that if I'm flying very close to VNE, the slight disparities in the ring graphics and the CoTASA data wouldn't be a factor. The same when flying on the stall.

I have attached the .ini file, which hasn't been altered since I reinstalled the software (I also deleted the settings folder at that time).

In my case, it doesn't seem to matter if I dive to VNE and directly select the most negative flap position, or wait for the prompts to change and follow them, it still takes around 40 seconds for CoTASA to indicate the maximum negative flap position. It is the same when going back to near stalling speed. There is a very long delay until the correct flap position is prompted for.

I quite agree that with your thousands of users not seeing this problem with their installations, it is strange that I should be the only "lucky" one!

I think it's time I apologised for being a pest - again, and to promise more beer! ;-)...

Cheers

All,
I have read the manual and the README but I am not the most geeky person and am experiencing an issue with Cotasa.

I run XCSoar if that makes a difference.

I start Cotasa. It looks great. I then Start Condor and while the landscape is loading Cotasa is displayed as expected. As soon as Condor2 starts on the flying screen Cotasa crashes. I then try to restart Cotasa and it opens for one second then crashes. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

my .ini file is as follows . . .

Hi Bleemus,

Try running CoTASA with Administrator rights. Otherwise you could also download the Zip Package and install it to a folder of your choice [NOT C:\Program Files (386)] - but uninstall the previously installed package first......

Don't worry, I had the same problem until Bre901 put me on the correct path....

Thank you John! The administrator trick worked.

Cheers!

I doubt it's a communication problem. What's your W10 versions anyway ?

Thanks for the video

I did some more tests and looked at the code again, nothing obvious

Please could you experiment with:

Code: Select all

#Flaps settings averaging time (sec. - default=2.00)
Flaps_AverageTime=0

#Airspeed averaging time (sec. - default=1.00)
Airspeed_AverageTime=0
first separately, then together, no need for an extra video for the time being

Hi Bre901,

I have Windows Pro 2004 19041.450.

I did these tests.

Test One:- Flaps_AverageTime=0
Airspeed_AverageTime=
Test Two:- Flaps_AverageTime=0
Airspeed_AverageTime=0
Test Three:- Flaps_AverageTime=
Airspeed_AverageTime=0

There were NO apparent differences between the three modes. Each time it took around 40-45 seconds for Flap 1 to be indicated, even though I was at VNE for most of the time - as soon as possible after starting. I staged the Flap movements to the CoTASA prompts on this occasion.

I exited CoTASA and Condor 2 completely between each test. Done with JS1-18 and NO WATER this time..

Please let me know if I can help further....

Cheers

Hi John

Great ills require great remedies, could you please download this executable : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1T8wfLK ... sp=sharing

then re-do the test and send me the file(s) created in the installation folder : GLIDER-Flaps_NNNNN.txt

Thanks again

Hi Bre901,

I tried to download the CoTASA_2105.7z file, but three times it was blocked by my Microsoft Virus Scanner, which reported that it contained a Trojan:Script/Foretype.A!ml

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/th ... 2147724345

While I doubt very much that the file is infected, I thought maybe you could try it as a .zip file and we will see what happens. I will keep an eye out for an updated download and try it immediately I get it.

As a mater of interest, I tried CoTASA with the two settings at 10, but there was no change to how the program prompted flap changes. Still around 43 seconds. As a wild thought, perhaps the script is not referencing the .ini file for those two settings????????

Cheers

I have experimented with those values here, the averaging delay is visible (much less than 43 secs, though)

I have also reported the exe as false positive to MS (Avast doesn't detect anything when downloading from GD)

Edited to add that the result of the analysis by MS is "Not malware" :D

Hi Bre901,

I am getting this error message. You can see the folder I have installed CoTASA to at the top left....

I'm standing by ready to test any suggestion!

In the mean time..... (Mailed Version hasn't arrived as yet....) BUT NOW IT HAS....

Test with standard setting:-

Flap prompts 4-1 VERY FAST!!!!!
Flap prompt 1-5 - it took a little time to get prompted 2-4 and 4-5 took maybe 15 seconds (guessed) before the Flap 5 move was prompted.
