Spinning a Std Cirrus

Post by DanStro » Fri Jul 27, 2018 9:40 pm

Has anyone spin a standard cirrus in Condor 2? When I do it, to practice the technique to get out of it, if I let the spin go for ~2 turns I can't recover. No matter what I do it just keeps spinning until I hit the ground. I've tried the typical method of neutralizing the ailerons, opposite rudder, stick forward and held that for at least a minute ( about 5-6 turns). I've also tried cycling the stick forward and backward fast, bringing the rudders neutral and the full opposite again but nothing seems to work. All of this has worked in other gliders that I've tried in Condor 2.

Am I the only one that has this problem? Or is the spin recovery technique different in the Cirrus than in many other gliders?

Thanks,
Dan

First, you must be on 2.0.4

Then, you must have auto rudder OFF.

Sorry, I meant to say that the auto-rudder is off (unchecked)

Just opposite rudder and pull the stick backward, bank opposite of rotation.

Hmmm, this is not correct.

I shall report it as a bug for fixing in the next patch

I've just had a play and it is a strange one. If you do normal recovery and gently move the stick forward the Cirrus will recover as expected at about 50% nose down on my joystick. If I put full opposite rudder, wait briefly and then just put 100% nose down quickly this accelerates the spin, almost like it noses over into an inverted spin instead of recovering?

Thanks Paul_UK. I tried that and it seems to work if you don't let the spin fully develop but if you give about 2+ full rotations it's too late. You just keep spinning.

I haven't tried all of the other planes yet to see if any of them do the same thing. I'll try that this weekend and post here if there are any.

And thanks OXO for looking into this so quickly.

I can recover regardless of the amount of times I've rotated. I do however have zero ballast or extra weight added. I did try with just the extra weight box ticked and I can still recover as long as I move the stick forward slowly. I haven't tried with full ballast as I'm not sure that this bug has been fixed or not?

How do you put a Cirrus into a spin?

kharmon

Setup for a normal stall and just before the nose breaks put in full rudder and hold that along with full back pressure on the stick.

I tested all of the aircraft that I have access to and the results are below. 'Yes' means that traditional spin recovery technique works, 'NO' means that I wasn't able to get out of the spin. It is also interesting that the trim axis did not work in the Antares. All of these were done with the same scenery, the same weather, at the same height, with no ballast and the C/G Bias=0

Antares: Yes
TRIM: NO

Blanik: Yes

Diana2: Yes

DuoDiscus: Yes

Genesis2: I couldn't get this to spin at all. The closest that I got were spiral dives.

Grunau Baby IIb: Yes

StdCirrus: NO

Antares has stick trim, not lever.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but why is that handled differently in the program? How do I set it up to adjust the trim on the Antares using a button on my joystick? I've tried the Trimmer Up and Down keyboard commands but nothing happened.

Because its a simulator of Real Gliders and we make it as close to them as possible?

( try centre trim mapped to joystick button)
