CoTaCo (V4.2.2): Task converter for XCSoar, LK8000 & SeeYou
Re: CoTaCo (V3.3.2): Yet another task converter for XCSoar
A beta-tester has suggested that I add an extra feature in CoTaCo, especially for hurried online-task flyers who don't have (or don't take) time to check thoroughly the flight plan: display a warning popup with start max altitude and finish min altitude.
As I count myself in the list of interested pilots, I'll do that, and I think I'll also add the cloud penalty and regatta start, if applicable.
This feature would be optional, of course.
Any comments or suggestions ?

Fantasticly useful additions, Marc
I vote YES PLEASE!

Re: CoTaCo (V3.3.2): Yet another task converter for XCSoar
I do it by hand today. Click on start, click on properties, close the box, click on finish, click on properties, close the box. And I do it for each tp.
This is much better and faster, I like it. Maybe you can add a message if a turn point has not the default min 0 and max 10 000 m

Re: CoTaCo (V3.4 Beta): Yet another task converter for XCSoar
Version 3.4 Beta is available there : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NuYrXG ... sp=sharing
Executable only, the manual will be updated later.
To activate the new functionality add: somewhere in the .ini file
I haven't tested all possible cases (start & finish windows not done)
Thanks for testing

Short test, converted yesterdays task. The warning comes correct (didn't tested no warning), the Condor.tsk is equal with the file from yesterday, only the version number is different. Looks good

Re: CoTaCo (V3.4 Beta): Yet another task converter for XCSoar
Wonderful! I'm racing daily this week with Condor NZ (0700UTC). Lots of Grand Prix starts, gate limits and opportunities to test.
Many thanks

Re: CoTaCo (V3.4 Beta): Yet another task converter for XCSoar
I did a quick test in yesterday's Condor NZ task, and I really like the prompts received.
One small addition for we antipodeans who still use feet for height in aviation would be to show altitudes in both metres and feet.
The Start type prompt is a nice and unexpected addition. The current week's tasks will also have a maximum start speed in kph and knots (which doesn't seem to show in the briefing) as well - it's all getting to be quite complex, isn't it....
Perfection would be to carry Start Height above Sea Level (rather than AGL) plus maximum start speed over to the LK8000 task in the future as well.
But of course, this all takes time and effort, as I well appreciate.
Many thanks for the hard work - yet again, Marc.
Cheers

Re: CoTaCo (V3.4 Beta): Yet another task converter for XCSoar
As far as I know, there are some folks on the other side of the planet who happen to be metrically challenged too
So, there you go :
Units are automatically detected from your Condor setup
BTW I made the display more homogeneous ( use "=" for all )
Beta 2 version is on the drive, same link as above
As far as I know, max start speed is not available in the flightplan. The current week's tasks will also have a maximum start speed in kph and knots (which doesn't seem to show in the briefing) as well - it's all getting to be quite complex, isn't it....
If, some day, it becomes available, CoTaCo will of course transfer the value to XCSoar or LK8000.
I could also add that in the GUI for V4 (haven't been working on it for a while)
Until then, please note that CoTASA can display the ground speed (in the text window and/or in the AH window), in whatever unit you want
I won't move a finger unless you prove me that it works.
Perfection would be to carry Start Height above Sea Level (rather than AGL) [...] over to the LK8000 task in the future as well.
As already mentioned privately, if I wrote it like that, I guess it's because MSL didn't work

Re: CoTaCo (V3.4 Beta): Yet another task converter for XCSoar
Thanks Marc,
In the LK 8000 task it uses ASL instead of MSL, where in the app itself, it uses MSL. Go figure....
<start max-height="1828800" max-height-margin="0" max-speed="0" max-speed-margin="0" height-ref="ASL"/>
CURRENT CoTaCo METHOD:-
<start max-height="1438000" max-height-margin="0" max-speed="0" max-speed-margin="0" height-ref="AGL" />
Another workaround may be to retrieve the waypoint altitude and add the two together, although that may give unexpected results in LK at the start-line.
I'll download the updated version now and give it a try and "fly" with oit tomorrow.
Many thanks
John

Re: CoTaCo (V3.4 Beta): Yet another task converter for XCSoar
One can expect anything from people who aren't able to stick to a coherent set of units in a data file : in the lkt file, altitudes of TPs are in meters and min/max heights are in millimetres
I did indeed write it like that because MSL doesn't work
CURRENT CoTaCo METHOD:-
<start max-height="1438000" max-height-margin="0" max-speed="0" max-speed-margin="0" height-ref="AGL" />
I tested it by writing ASL (by hand) in the lkt file, it worked, so I have modified CoTaCo accordingly
I'm sorry but I refuse to apologise for poor coding by other programmers...
That mess should be fixed now, please re-test.

Re: CoTaCo (V3.4 Beta): Yet another task converter for XCSoar
Minor change :
When in "wait" mode with Condor in full screen emulation, the CoTaCo popup(s) are frozen while Condor starts, which means that the transfer script was not executed until you clicked "OK" in the altitude warning popup window.
That popup is now shown after the script is run, which means you don't have to wait to start XCSoar or LK8000
Same download link
If no bugs are found, V3.4 will be officially released in a few days
