Help with serial ports. CondorNav /Xsoar

Post by Crakob » Tue Apr 03, 2018 3:26 pm

Hi everybody.
(a lot of questions, when you're new to condor)

I tried to setup virtual ports for the use of condorNav (i also tried Xsoar) i tried VSPE ond com0com

Using a port monitor, i can see that condor opens its designated port and outputs data.
The second port is also receiving data.
Condornav is set to the right port.

But it won't show any Data ??

I thougt it migt be Condornav, so i tried Xsor. I did the setup ea described. But again no data is being received by xsoar.

So i think it must be someting i'm not aware of in my system.

Do you have an hint for me ?

Thanks a lot

Christian

Did you remember to edit Condor's "UDP.ini" file? At first, I forgot to and CondorNav wouldn't work. The file is located in the "Condor2/Settings" directory (I think this location is different between Condor 1 and Condor 2).

The CondorNav manual (http://condornav.fr/condornav-manuel.pdf) page 9 shows the changes. Using google translate from French it says:
Activation of the Condor UDP
You must enable the Condor UDP mode.
Go to your Condor directory and edit the UDP.ini file with the notepad.
Your Condor UDP file should have the following settings
:
[General]
Enabled = 1
[Connection]
Host = 127.0.0.1
Port = 55278
[Misc]
SendIntervalMs = 53
ExtendedData = 0
LogToFile = 0

The parameter SendIntervalMs can be set to 53 milliseconds if you spin [run?]
at the same time, Condor, CondorNav, Russian instruments, Cunimb.exe, XCSoar, etc.
You are ready to use CondorNav on your second screen and Condor on your first screen.
Good luck!

Hi Brian,

i did that, with no success.

i even bought a 2nd serial card for my pc. Ithought, mayby connecting Com1 and COM2 with a "real" 0modem cable would work.
no luck either.

right now the only thing that works is Xsor on a android handy via bluetooth.

I have no idea what to try. Might it be the Windows itself. Some setting which dosn`t allow communication ??

I have VSPE set up for COM2, and COM2 being routed to a TCPIP server.

Then I connect XCSOAR to port 4353 (I have it set up for both TCP and UCP on that port, COM2 never connects to my android device):

Hi John thanks for your effort.

i think i'm getting to old for that stuff.

But hooray, it worked with your help. The generic TCP client in xsoar does it.

Thanks very much !!!! :D

Hi,

Why not go for BT dongle and set'up XCSoar in 5mins without any additional software ?

@yautay,

could you please elaborate more on that ? BT dongle ?

Well, in Condor 1 I was using VSPE and latter an alternative solution that also worked pretty nice on my home LAN, using either Ethernet or wifi, and running XCSoar on my laptop or on my Kobo ( the same I use in the glider )...

But I'm curious about that "BT" ?

Thanks :-)

Just use BT connection (if you do not have BT in your PC, need BT dongle - 10 Euro approx I guess or more if you like...)
Connect two devices via BT (PC - smartphone, or PC-PC, or PC-laptop or whatever whete you have XCSoar installed)

Tricky part is that you must enable serial port sharing in BT config.
When you choose in XCSoar to use Condor protocol you will "see" it's serial port form another PC via BT config.

It's so easy and works like a charm.

I was struggling with it for so many days, and finally bought my dongle to set'up Condor=>XCSoar in 5 minutes.

Brgds!

Ah! I see...

Ok, although I am getting the same result with WiFi. But long goes the time of trying to buy cables and RS / USB converters...

Thx!

Hi
It worked with a BT dongle. But every few minutes the connection broke.
I admit, it’s an quite old dongle.

I ordered a new one. Let’s see whether that works.

Because to start the Vspe with the nag screen (64 bit). Is annoying

But it'll work beautifully as well with a Wifi connection, which nowadays is pretty much standard at home...

Wow, I can't believe how easy the BT option was. Simply set up BT on the PC to have as serial port ("More Bluetooth Options --> Com Port --> Add"), pair the PC with the PDA (from the PDA settings) and then set up XCSoar to point at the paired PC as the "Port" and "Condor Soaring Simulator" as the driver.
