Condor GP 2017

Post by dgtfer » Wed Mar 29, 2017 9:11 am

CondorGP2017.jpg
12 years after Lowlands Cup, SBCs and recently CWC, this is probably the last great Condor V1 competition:
We all hope that the next one will be on Condor2!

For this special event and with the beginning of real flight season, we wanted an innovative formula, less demanding in time, while assiduous pilots might have full chances to participate in the final board.

This competition will have 2 parts: 14 Qualification Races (plus one training day) and the Grand Final Race, where the 32 qualified pilots will confront for the Condor GP 2017 Champion title!
The flights will take place on Wednesday evenings at 18:15 UTC and Sunday afternoons at 15:15 UTC.
The training flight will take place on Wednesday 12/04/2017
The 14 qualification races from 16/04 to 31/05,
The Grand Final Race will take place on Sunday 3rd June at 18:15 UTC.
The first 2 of each qualifying flight as well as the top 4 of the overall qualification flights ranking Will participate in the Grand Final Race.

Nice to see a new, original approach to a Condor competition.
One obvious question, what if a pilot wins several qualifiers? After 10 races, 20 pilots will be qualified, they could take op the entire top 20 of race 11, will pilots nr 21 and 22 be added to the qualification?

Regards,

John 76

I'm sorry guys! I've deleted a very important paragraph in my translation of the rules!

 Grand Final Qualification :

- For each of the 14 qualification flights, the first 2 pilots not already qualified, will be qualified for the Grand Final Race.
- Qualification after each flight is definitive (no possible Withdrawal for a specific flight).
- A pilot already qualified is allowed to fly the other races.
- A general ranking is established on all 14 qualification flights.
- the first 4 pilots in this ranking not already qualified are also qualified.
- In case of withdrawal of a qualified pilot, the next non qualified pilot in the general ranking will be qualified in his place.
- Only the 7 best results are taken in account for the general ranking.
- A Qualification Board will be published in the forums Condorsim.fr and Condorsoaring.com, and updated after each qualification race.

Congratulation to Quinten Hermans for his victory!
He would have been qualified... but this was only the Training Day!

Serious matters are begining this Sunday, at 15:15 UTC.

And of course there is still time for registration, and even untill the last qualification day.

Congratulations to Sylvain Bidass and Stefan Beach !
They are the first 2 qualified for the Grand Final Race.
Sylvain chose to stay high in the mountains, and Stefan is very fast in ridge flying. That was good for qualification !
The other pilots gain some points in general ranking....

Congratulations to ORI Ental and Finn Kristensen, by far the best last night!
In this very selective flight they brilliantly left us behind...
They join Sylvain and Stefan in the Olympus of Condor.

Beware to Sylvain 2AB, who had not flown on Condor for 1 year, and who would have been largely competitive without a loss of more than 1000 m after a collision and a difficult spin out!

And in the general ranking Zbyszek Tkocz ZBI, Ikarus DB1 and Mihaly Knausz KMI pile up points quietly ...

Congratulations to Norbert!
A fast ridge flight with some weird thermals in the middle;
Sylvain 2AB is still a little closer to qualification, and Sandor one of the Grand Masters of Condor, missed it only for a few seconds... Congratulations for them too!

It's done for Sandor and Sylvain 2AB, all our congratulations!
Already 8 qualified, and there are so many very good pilots on the list!
This time Anouar GE7 and Tim Madsen are very close, ... will it be OK in the next race?
But with great champions such as Robyfly RF (Rapido Fantastico!) coming back, places are likely to be expensive ...

Congratulation to JO Juliett Oscar and ZBY Zbyszek Tkocz, they are now qualified for the Grand Final Race, after one of the longest race ever flown in a Condor Competition with 423 km, the key was to stay very high to avoid a difficult ridge flying in the last leg.
It, also gives more space for qualification in the general ranking where for the present the first 4 pilots not already qualified are KMI, EM, DB1 and BLA.
But of course we can bet that most of them will soon be directly qualified, especially E M-Philoo, who misted it for only 1min!

REA Quinten Hermans made a smashing entry into the Qualification Board, outdistancing all of his competitors, he will certainly be hard to beat for the Grand Final! But may be EJE Laszlo Orsy who is also qualified, will do it?
Congratulations for both of them!
And all our encouragement to their pursuers, especially Tim Madsen and Alex Holswilder: there are still 8 qualification races ...

Jon Holland managed to qualify directly for his first attempt, and Piotr Raczynski, only 11 seconds behind after more than 2 hours of battle, will accompany him in the Grand Final, Congratulations!
It's nice to see in the final board these two pilots at the top since the early years of Condor competitions!
After half of the qualification races flown, Mihaly Knausz, EM Piloo and B Ikarus are still leading the overall ranking, and regularly at the forefront of each races, will they be soon directly qualified?

A great bravo to Fifi (Fifi28), who managed his race with lucidity and of course for Anouar (Golden Eagle) one of the great favorites for the Final Race!
A task in China rather simple, with fast and low ridge flying, but with a delicate approach of TP2.
When it goes very fast, the main difficulty is to make path choices or rhythm changes well in advance!
At this game several very good pilots have been fooled ...
Also worth mentioning is the entry into the competition of TRM (Torben Moeller), one of the historic pilots of Condor, who has participated in most of the major competitions since the very beginning, and who ranked 7th, among the 2 would-be qualified with Marek Baran.

Congratulations to E M-Philoo and Mihaly Knausz for their qualifications, they have often been in the front rows on previous races and are now in the Final Board!
And of course all our encouragements to 3XM Xiongmao x3, who also did it, and to all the valorous pilots who fought bravely against unwilling obstacles!
It was probably one of the most difficult tasks nowadays. Only 3 pilots reached a high altitude goal surrounded by high ridges...
Maybe a small tribute to this beautiful scenery's author, who often served us very "spicy" Andean races ...
