Very very nice task. Even though I didnt finish (-200m) I really liked it and I hope we can have more like these 8)

Hmm, I tried the theory with a backwind finalglide by dumping water (MC 0.0)
One guy with water flew 3-4 minutes faster on the last leg... congrats Karsten :)
Curious to your igc

Frustration ruled the day for me.....joined a bit late and just couldn't make start height by the time the gate opened. With time being critical I started 1000' under max start. Lots of fun counting pine trees for most of the first leg...NOT!

Caught up to the faster guys near TP1 - I had two good climbs late on leg1. It all turned to custard on leg2 as I got lower and further into the lee of the preferred main ridge....more pine tree counting :)

Hey...I didn't know counting pine trees doing 60kts in zero lift with no water was fun....IT ISN'T!

After several bad moves I was on the plains in the lee of the Karawanken (I think?) waiting for the inevitable outlanding.

Now that I've finished bitching!....I think these kinds of tasks are quite interesting and would like to fly more. However, given so few pilots actually completed the course, in my estimation the standard that was set is perhaps a little high for regular weekend d*ckheads like me.

Cheers

Great task, although FG was a bit too long  , but definitely not boaring...never had + until 5km from finish, with Mc 0.0 .

This race was really interesting, first time I flew with Tim on 1 server this year.

At start we weren't completely sure where to go, but decided for the way right of track and when we saw Tim also going that way we knew if it was wrong we weren't allone  . Until we got to the high mountain in front of TP1, I could gain 2km on Tim, but then I made the mistake to leave the lift too early which put me too low after the TP1 to get to Kosuta. Tim was much higher and I was sure to see him passing over me soon...but he decided to go back to the high mountains in the south while I tried to go directly to Kosuta ridge...and found a nice 2-3m/s lift in the blue which gave me enough altitude to reach the ridge :) .
After that I went to Kosuta and followed the ridge to the Hochstuhl north of Lesce where I got a nice climb again, NX came in just below me now.
After that we went a bit to the south to stay high turned TP2 and tried to get as much alt as possible near Triglav...but the last cloud didn't work anymore so we left the Triglav-area with -200m. Over the last ridges we gained another 150m in very weak lift and started FG with -50m, while Tim with his Discus was 4,5km ahead and already on FG.
But After the turn I saw him flying back dumping water... 20km later I was up to him at the same altitude, but still had -40m. On the last ridges Tim decided to gain some altitude while I couldn't because of my water the lift was too weak. So I went on still 20m too low, but somehow the small valleys in the big valley of Lesce worked really great, compared to the bigger ridges in front and gave me anough for a 130km/h finish  .

It was really fun and a great tactical game on our server.

BTW I think JH got a wrong start time, it should rather be 15:46:18  .

Great Task. I was 2.6km to short - but i enjoyed it.

My final glide began by +70m with MC0 in 3150m without water, i flew between 95 and 110 km/h the direct way and at the end i need 20m for home

But that was a real task!

Tim you are rigth concerning optimal gliding number. But if you have the
altitude you must look for optimal time and then you must keep the water.

I started final glide with 100km+ to go with GT at the same alt (same glider) right behind me, I had about +100m. From the way GT fell back from me at MC0 I assume he had no water (I was full) I easily made the finish at speed & he landed some time later 3.8km short ... don't know what that does to FG theory & water.

I also noticed that over that distance I gained 100m on my DDH in what was just about still air.
