Day 13

Post by Andy1248 » Thu Dec 13, 2007 11:05 pm

Day 13, unlucky for some.

I fly 228km at 106kph. Not fast, but I get round and enjoy task. Until I look at results.

1.4 points for this! This bit I do not enjoy.

Hello everyone,

I arrived to NZ and I forgot to change my timezone because here is other time as in Europe. So is possible to get me a password for 23:45 server? Many thanks.

i think that the 1945 holds a new record..... for number of restarts of task by pilots most of us started not long before gate close because we couldnt get away. but was a very fun flight.

..and you forget the most funniest:
We can't upload our logfiles because the 5 hour time limit is finished :D

Man, what a horrible task :)

Hi Andy,

The scoring probably missed your first turnpoints, so you were scored with the distance between where you landed and the start turnpoint.

Email the SB team and they should be able to correct your score. It's probably best to include details of which server you were on if you know it.

Oh and Please, please please do not post task speeds publically until all of the timezones have finished!!!!

Thanks Steve for your advice.

Ref my post. The distance of 228km was available for anybody to view on the server list when the first server opened.

My average speed was not earth shattering and anybody who knows me will know that I am not up with leaders. If it had been KL or NX posting their speed, that would be a different issue.

But point taken and I do not think I gave anything away.

For info I was on the 1845 de019 server. I got really bad FPS drop from 30ish to 5 or 6 whenever I was circling with other gliders in sight. I thought this fps drop bug had been sorted in patch 12.

I was also getting a occasional 1 sec freeze on my simulator which no doubt all adds ups to my average speed falling behind others.

I also forgot to add ballast which slowed me down but allowed faster climbs. Not my day but my speed should put me in the top 100 which would have been my best result this year.

My flight has been accepted OK by Condor database and can be viewed here:

Lol, what a task indeed. 5 or 6 start attempts for me. Not often you get to go soaring past Tim 2000 metres above him

After we had waited for everyone to finish IGC upload was already blocked although it was actually only 4.5 hours after the server started. I hope Andreas adds them to the scoring.

By the way, my flight is logged as a crash, Same as Tony i had a few restarts, i dropped out of one thermal with TH above me and raced across the valley for a nice little cloud that i missed by some ten mtrs, TH got into it but still went back for a restart, i turned and landed belly style on the hillside without crashing and didn't get the crash status for a few minutes afterwards, I think TE took a shot of me landed with the text on screen.

I would seem that I was not so badly off then, if Tim had the same speed as me, my performance was not that bad. I did not have the problems that others seemed to have in getting away. Once on track I got good climbs to cloud base and with no ballast these were very swift and I could afford to burn height for speed with the next cloud in sight.

The only problem is and still remaining is that only scored 1.4 points!

Do I laugh this off and carry on or decide that the Speedbattle Cup is not me and take up "tiddlywinks" or train spotting.

No no, not train spotting. Get the tiddlywinks out and I'll join you.

Oh Yes. This looks much more exciting than Condor Speedbattle Cup!

I can see it now, online Tiddlywinks league with entries from all over the world playing on different time zones.

Results published on the net, an active forum (see above post). Just the thing for those dark winter nights.

But, there may be cheating and unfair scoring! Perhaps not. What do train spotters do?
