Scoring question

Post by GregNuspel » Thu Dec 13, 2007 12:14 pm

I was wondering why my penalty was so large in our race results for day 13. From Condor I get this:
Rank Status Player CN RN Plane Dist Time Speed Penalty Score TeamScore Team
Removed big oops.

But the web shows me with a score of 874.8 and no other races have been entered yet.

Sorry about that, anyway my results show a score of 998.0 and Denis came in with 918.7 so there is a large difference.

Hi Greg,

maybe it's got something to do with the amount of people who flew the race. If you look at it again in, lets say in 6hours, it's probably changed.

Hi Greg,

did you start on the edge of the sector maybe?
And that SeeYou's sector is just a little smaller (accident maybe)
and therefor took an earlier cross over the line as you start time?
Sometimes it happens that when you dive into the sector, and pull up, the lowest point isn't exactly on the IGC file, so you might dove in for 3m and the IGC missed that.
In that case Andreas or Stefan will usualy change your score manualy later on.
That's the only thing I can imagine, unless it's an AAT of course.
Then the condor scoring won't mean a thing, but I assume you know that.

Don't worry :)
Think positive, flaps negative.

So what you are telling me is that the Condor PDA should not be used for judging your start. I was diving for the start from behind the line and just made it under the start altitude as I crossed the line. I was actually anticipating having to thermal back up and try again, but Condor showed that I made it.

As for my score it isn't very important since I am well down the list, but I did wonder if this could happen to people who are near the top of the list it could cause them a placing. My case it would have put me in 43rd instead of 105th place because the times are way out.

Rank Status Player CN RN Plane Dist Time Speed Penalty Score TeamScore Team
1* Finished Greg.Nuspel GN C-GREG ASW28 228.4 km 1:55:55 118.2 km/h 2.0 p 998.0 p 0

So it is just a word of caution that people should check their results.

Hi Greg

The difference is that Condor accepts starts going thru the top of the semicircle sector. If you come at very high speed and start pull up very close to the line it is possible that you pass the line just 1-2m over it and Condor will accept your start as you started passing the top of the sector, let's say, 10m before the line, and this at 260km/h is less than a blink of your eyes...

This is the reason because I always start a bit lower than the max alt (about 20-30m) and never at VNE (always about 20km/h less). With this I'm always sure I have my start OK and the wings are BOTH with me after the start...
