***OLD*** EasternAlps 2.0 pictures

Post by mosquito » Wed Apr 12, 2006 10:44 am

Hi there!

i'm not sure if all you know it yet, but since some weeks, next to me there is also Rainer Kirchstorfer (raiki) working on the EasternAlps Scenery.
Rainer created a new map for the scenery which covers a much migger Area and which also features much better elevation data than the old version of EasternAlps. Due to Rainers efforts, the scenery also has realistic forrest areas now.
I finished a first version of the terragen file which we will use to make the landscape look more realistic and Rainer is working on the implementation of Satellitepictures.

Good work mosquito and raiki.

It will be quite a big job for all the users to download and replace the original, so please take as long as you need to get it right :)

Ehm, I know I am all bad guy with no taste for what's cool, but will there be two versions, one with photo textures and one with "condor textures"? I must say I prefer Condor textures against that something which is exibited here on "glacier" screenshots and "city with lake" screenshots. No offense, I know its much work and You have to put lot of effort into that, and skills too, but its worse than default in my eyes. It is also about that when You put texture with low resolution of known object it is way more looking bad that texture of same resolution of abstract surface.
Don't beat me ... but take this opinion into account. I know I am not alone with this opinion. I was glad Condor was not into "to be in" with phototextures ... but here we go

Come on swt, there are only a few spots with this kind of images... And releasing 2 versions will be a nightmare for multiplayer servers, besides the ammount of downloads....

just my 2 cents...
