cannot use Game Menu

Hello I am new to Condor and just tryinmg my first steps.
I am running it on XP on a vitrualbox on a Lenovo T400 under linux - far from optimal, just for a strart.

My problem: When hitting ESC in the flight-lesson, I do see the Game Menu, but I can't select anything, because the read mouse cursor sticks to the sides of the screen. Is there a way to select the items without the mouse?

I don’t know if this will help, but it sounds like an intermittent bug I had years ago on IL-2.
The mouse would freeze in the G U I right after the Spash Screen.
Whenever this happened, I would simply press the Windows Key which would expose the tool bar and unfreeze the mouse. Then I would left click on my game icon in the tool bar, returning the game to full screen and mouse good to go.
