Grob Twin Astir 2 - simulator project

Post by scls19fr » Sun Nov 14, 2021 4:15 pm

Hello,

My soaring club is planning to buy a very old Grob Twin Astir 2 and convert it to a simulator.

I'm looking for advices about hardware to connect glider controls to a computer.

What kind of board are you using with Condor 2 ?

I noticed that some of you are using USB board which act as HID (Human Interface Device) compliant Game Controller such as
USB CNC controller – PoKeys57U https://www.poscope.com/product/pokeys57u/
or MFG SIMM8RGE USB JOYSTICK CONTROLLER https://mfg-sim.com/en/rudder-spare-par ... oller.html
or Leobodnar http://www.leobodnar.com/shop/index.php ... ead0b237bc
or Efdé joystick board https://efde.fr/index.php?id_product=33 ... &id_lang=1

Are there some others ? what are the pros and cons ?

I also noticed this interesting forum post about sensors viewtopic.php?t=18313 (potentiometer vs magnetics sensors)

Do you know where we could find magnetic sensors for our purpose ?

Ideally do you know if some companies sell (at a decent price) a bundle with board, sensors (for rudder, stick, airbrake, release handle) and mechanical parts which could be adapted to such a glider ?

Kind regards

I used this one to convert an old ASK21 to a sim. This board works plug and play with condor. Easy to set up.

I used magnetic angle sensors (0-5v) for the analog ports. They don't loose their calibration and they work flawlessly with the PoKeys board.

Thanks @wickid do you have reference for magnetic angle sensor.

The harder part of the project to me seems to be to design the mechanical parts for connecting controls with sensor.

Do you have some pictures of your sim ? (especially the mechanical parts / linkage)
