Condor 2 - what we already know

Post by Pit_R » Fri Jan 12, 2018 8:25 am

To make our waiting little easier and to put all scattered infos in one place - let's start thread about C2 features we already know/guessing. ;)

C2:

- 7 gliders and 4 towplanes are in the launch version
- one new plane (to buy) "every month till August" [from January till August? ;) ]
("The pricing structure is being changed. Planes will be sold individually so
you dont have to buy 5x planes to get the one you want. Planes which have
multiple configurations, for example JS1 in 18 and 21 m will be sold together
for a bit more than a single configuration price.")
- C1 sceneries need to be ported to C2
("V1 sceneries won't work in V2 without being converted and that has to be done
be their original authors.")
- different gliders than C1 (so probably worth to have both versions of C.!)
- price will be announced at release (for sure less than 100€)
- no demo (but there will be videos after launch)
- sceneries mesh 30 m
- higher textures resolution [officially supported]
- smaller sceneries? [rather not if old can be converted] update -> There is no extra limitation on Condor 2 landscape sizes
- "clouds are 100% code and imagery redesign" ;)
- "everything is new, except for physics model" [is weather model part of the physics?] ;)
- longer tow rope - length possible to set (?)
- probably the same weather settings (?) (nothing surprised about weather on few known screenshots)
- AAT support in Condor's PDA (?)
- 64 pilots in multiplayer
- Change name from Condor: The Competition Soaring Simulator to Condor: The Complete Soaring Simulator
- DXT3 instead of DXT1
- new weather engine in version 2, with:
  • (A) significantly differentiated on the different areas of a scenery
    (B) sometimes very evolutive within the same day (cold front, storms etc.)
    (C) significantly different according to the flight altitude
    (D) sometimes bad (overcast conditions ie. 6/8 to 8/8, rain, showers) [?]

- two remote pilots to share one glider cockpit - network support for two-seaters [?]
- version 2 will be a major step forward in weather area
- support for motor gliders [?]
- hardware req.: dedicated GPU with 1gb and a i5 or i7; http://www.videocardbenchmark.net : 1000 min. 4000 very good, 8000 perfect
- gliders we most probably will see in the C2 (not all in the initial release):
  • Jonker JS-1 Revelation (two versions: 18 and open class)
    L-13 Blanik
    Duo Discuss (XL?)
    DG-1001 (?)
    Diana (2?)
    Antares 18s (+ self-launching versions?)
    Grunau Baby 2b
    Std. Cirrus
    DG-500
    ASK-21
    Genesis (2?)

If you know something else...
- official or less official
- maybe from fb [not all use and it is hard to read fb comments but I found news not mentioned on this forum - cited above]
- or maybe you have some other possible guessing...

Please share! :)

In the "will it look like this" tread on this forum, OXO stated:

>>>That is optimised for one configuration which is completely different to what we optimise Condor for. We need great clouds, great handling planes, accurate physics, thermals and 64 pilots in Multiplayer.

We also must run on computers which arent the latest 3000€ rocketships <<<

64 pilots in multiplayer!!

May be from CondorWorld site :

" CW-A is the first of the sceneries for Condor Soaring Simulator version 2. This is an new landscape from area you know as Austria scenery. It is an intermediate stage between old sceneries for V1 and new V2 sceneries that will be smaller but very detailed, including a double resolution textures of 8192 pixels instead of 4096.

He is referring to landscapes he makes for Condor 2.

There is no extra limitation on Condor 2 landscape sizes

And they say 2017 was one of the best years in flight simulation....

I'm eagerly awaiting CS2. I never found any really worth alternative and only the lack of time to properly play it, namely online, is the main drawback for me, but I have to admit that in more than one way Condor has actually made my RL flying better, and safer !

Recently that ortho ( low res, maybe ZL14 ? ) for Portugal turned out to be the best 2017 simulation gift I got - I am now able to operate from ALL of our soaring airfields ( just a few unfortunately, after the many losses due to the crisis... ), to train for some rw circuits, and I really look fwd for a port of it into CS2, which I am sure will take quite a while, which, by itself, is a good reason to keep v1 installed.

Learning that there were no significant changes to the superb flight and overall physics model is another great thing. Condor is unique in the realism / feel of flight it gives me so, that suites perfectly!

JBr asked "Where does this come from?"....I just replayed where I have see something like that...

Also hope that "double resolution textures of 8192 pixels" is not the limit...

Yeah, I asked to confirm my suspicion that someone haven't understood correctly what's written at Miloš's website. :)

8192 pixels per tile gives about 2,8 m per pixel resolution. This is still better resolution than most of the freely available sources of aerial imagery.

" freely available sources of aerial imagery.!" is not a technical limit..... :D , but was one, in V1, since most people had blue screen problem with my "BigPyrénées" with the 8192 x 8192 pix / Terragen, have most of them ready in 16384....1.40 m per pixel !
are tiles still the same size...?

What are you talking about? Arc Gis website imagery is at 0.14m/pixel. A truly dynamic display resolution would produce even more detail eg: at airports.

I still have photos of Oahu at 0.3meter resolution that was freely available from the University of Hawaii. It will be nice having higher terrain mesh resolution.

I am talking about the fact, that even when something is offered for free in some application on a website, it doesn't mean you are allowed to use it for your landscape. E.g. doing this with Google Maps is actually breaking 2 or 3 conditions of their terms of use (no modification, no redistribution, no bulk downloading).

Of course, there are data that really are free to use, but those are still more rare than common and definitely not available globally.

I ask again: " freely available sources of aerial imagery.!" is not a technical limit. ! About 10%from of the 2017 dds textures in my scenery, are 4096x4096 dds(10.67Mo/ tile) , the 90 other are still 2048x2048 dds.
In most flight on condorsim.fr, we had 50% of aborded flight due to blue screen, just want to know if we can now make a whole scenery 4096x4096 pixels( 1.40m/pixel) resolution?
I did't ask about, if I'm allowed to redistribute the scenery and don't ask you to distribute at all ...
