Glider should turn right after release, Tow plane should turn left and descend.
Unfortunately it doesn't quite work like that in Condor. There are some rebel tow pilots out there that need to be watched!!!! :D
Actually this procedure varies from country to country, In north america its glider-right; tug-left. Some countries it's the opposite.....
In Denmark we turn left....

Because we are following the international rules who say:

Left turn 5 km from the airport/start line.
Then after the thermal is free, and the rules say 1 man in the thermal determine direction.

Just do it safe.. if there is someone thermaling left, turn left on the same alt.

Don't start turning left if someone is allready thermaling right "cause that is the rule". In real, you only got one life. it's nice to be right all the time. it's even better to say that to the other when your both death in heaven.

in real gliding that's normal that near the airport you turn left in thermal. When you learn how to fly, you get use to turn left in thermal. So after gliding course everyone turns left in thermal even if it's not close to the airport. Only sometimes right....

I notice even some "good" European pilots can only thermal to the left. I flew a SB task two days ago with another guy (no names) who consistently finishes top 20.

Even when I was in a thermal first, turning right, he would enter just below me turning the opposite direction....pissed me right off! That tells me he cannot fly to the right.

Most of us have our preferences for sure, but you need to be able to turn both ways and climb well.

This is a bit interresting I think, but I (I think many other`s to) can "only" turn in one direction .. . Of somehow reason I always have the nices and most comfy turns to the left . . . Turning right feels almost a bit weird :?
i have never understood why but thats the fact ! I can of course turn right but when it comes to circling many times around am best to the left. .. . ..(for me) I also have heard others have experienced the same somethimes . . . .

So in fact you are a handicapped glider pilot.
Just practice, as practise makes perfect..

It's all about left and right, as I allready said somewhere. Sometimes, the left is right, but still, the right could be right also.

So, it's just the matter of decision, what is right, left or right

So if you turn right, you are always right, right?

Tim

you shoul know that there's no absolute truth. You may be right, or maybe not. Right isn't allways right, becouse, if, in some circomstances, the left is right, then the right isn't right

Now, i'm completely confused :? (and i'm left handed, it's already more difficult for me :? )

I've learned (not in real life, i'm not real pilot) :
- Before start : anybody must turning left,
- After and more than 5 km of airport, we can turn like we want, only respect the direction of first pilot in the thermal ?

Is that right ? or not ?
