Re: Best Landscape to Learn about Waves
IRL wave is found by looking for the lenticular clouds, and riding a thermal high enough to pick up the upward moving side of the rotor. You can get wave (particularly mountain wave) without lenticular clouds, and still achieve fantastic heights. In the sim, wave is a bit simplified. The lenticular ...

Re: What other "tools" are you using?
I'm old-school. I study the map/course before I fly, note the wind, know my glider, and off I go. I use the PDA for route guidance and to help when thermalling (but I had a year away and became rusty; I'm using the thermal part hardly at all now - I've put in about 20 hours of practice this week). T...

Re: Thermal map discussion (split from Condor error)
Is there any way to check the thermal map? For that, you just change the file type from .tdm to .raw (on a copy file of course), and you open it with photoshop (same size as your map, 1 channel, 8 bits/pixels, 8 bits header), then you rotate it by 180°. I did that, and the resulting image has the l...

Any links to the rules?
EDIT: Anyone wondering what "AA2" is, it's the Arc Alpin v2 scenery, available here: https://www.condor.club/viewscenery/242/?id=309
Thank you!

Re: Thermal map discussion (split from Condor error)
here a short video about where, for me, condor goes far away from reality in thermals triggering and maps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA1Bok6l7uM I must +1 this. I thought it was just me, but evidently not. In most maps, I'm unable to fly over areas that should be giving something in the way o...

Re: Best Landscape to Learn about Waves
Nephi is another great scenery for wave flying. I set 15 kts of wind for the surface, and 30 kts for the wave. The wave itself is affected by stability and wind strength. 30 kts windspeed, 5/10 or 6/10 stability yields the highest climb rates at the higher altitudes, and 60-80% humidity allows you t...

Re: Polar Data Spreadsheet
You might want use the data points that I have computed for XCSoar or LK8000 (parabolic polars) https://www.condorsoaring.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=17820 (the link to the most recent data is at the end of the thread) The data points are for the (dry) mass specified in the files. If you want t...

Flap Setting in a Thermal?
Hi, What is a good flap setting in a thermal? In both the JS1 and Diana-2 I find I'm using maximum flap for greatest stability when flying at min sink. It just alleviates the tendency for it to reach the stall and prevents the aircraft accelerating wildly, but it appears not to adversely affect the ...

Polar Data Spreadsheet
Hi, I noticed there are several dead links in this post: https://www.condorsoaring.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9878 ...so I am creating a new spreadsheet that generates polars from known data (min sink, best L/D, and a known 3rd value in the high-speed flight regime). I'm stuck at finding the (x,...

Re: Out of memory BSOD : Read compression format
Check yuour swap file. Increase the size and make sure it is fixed, not dynamic. 32 Gb is a good starting size (32767).

Check the scenery in use. Is it on a different drive to Condor?

Feature Request: Ability to move polar up/down the Y-axis
Hi,
Is it possible to enable the polar to be moved up/down the Y-axis? This is useful for determining optimum speed-to-fly when encountering sink but still flying at e.g. best L/D speed, or min sink speed.

Hi,
As per the subject - in 2.1.6 the logbook entry ID is always "1" for new entries.

Re: Starting a Flight
I just downloaded and installed Condor, I can't figure out how to actually start a flight in the flight school, there does not seem to be a button or other way to get past the first page that describes the activity In SETUP -> INPUT options you can assign a key or joystick button to "Start Flight",...
