Airport hi-res overlay file

I found it is possible to use a hi-res overlay bitmap/dds for an airport at up to 16384 pixels, but it gets mixed with the default asphalt.dds file and makes the runway too dark. It can also be used with the default asphaltpaint.dds and because it is mostly white it works quite well, but the cracks ...

Re: ASI instrument markings

So I tried it out. I created a transparent PNG for the color markings and created a surface for it in the object, and replaced the original background by a generic speed background with no color markings. It worked out OK. Note that the color marking is elevated over the background for illustration ...

Re: ASI instrument markings

I thought that perhaps an extract surface of the same size, covering the background but with a 'transparent' (dds/tga) with the colour markings only could done. Ill try to see if that would perhaps work. Just an idea.

ASI instrument markings

I find that the font for the speeds on the ASI is a bit too small to properly be seen on the screen due to the screen resolution limits, so I have increased the font size a bit. The problem is that each plane has its own speed-i-face bitmap with its own color markings that varies for each plane. Thi...

Re: Radio Tower and ATIS (?) frequencies

Yes, very true, however, 120.100 MHz cannot be set as the steps are 0.250 MHz, not 0.025 or 0.00833 MHz. Not a big deal. I thought I'd ask. I tried changing the default bitmap for the radio display for a plane .gau file with a radio_override.c3d object, but it was ignored for some reason, and it's a...

Re: Radio Tower and ATIS (?) frequencies

Clear_Alaska.jpg Yes, I know it changes the 'chat' channel selection. However, I'm creating a small landscape for a gliding simulator for a flight school, and they requested that the radio show the proper frequency for the airport, so that it is the same as for a real flight, and the chat channel i...

Radio Tower and ATIS (?) frequencies

Is there a way to set the default radio frequency (123.500) on the radio display ? Is it possible to make it show the frequency of the airport as per the airport .apt frequency definition? What about the 119.000 frequency display (ATIS ?), can it be changed? I had a look at the radio.c3d, but there ...

Re: Standardizing the landscape grid

I keep adding features that are useful as I need them when I make a new landscape. The Airport Delete button has potential to damage a landscape, so I have disabled it, as it is unlikely to be needed. However, if you inadvertently add one and want to delete it, it would be nice to have. I can enable...

Re: Impressions of VR with Meta Quest 2

Thanks for the excellent information you sent. I was trying to avoid more installs, more software, more things that can crash and complications to get things going, and just use the Meta desktop interface, but if it makes a significant improvement to use SteamVR, it is probably worthwhile. I'll try ...

Re: Impressions of VR with Meta Quest 2

I tried MSAA at 2x, 4x, and 8x, and each step reduces the flickering of objects, but now there are sometimes hesitations in the rendering. 4x seems a good compromise. I thought it had to do with stereo vision, but I tried the 'Depth perception factor' and it does change the scaling with 75% being ab...

Re: Impressions of VR with Meta Quest 2

No, the MSAA is disabled. I read somewhere in the forums that it is best to keep it disabled. I'll have to try. In the Setup VR window, I only see two check boxes, 1) Oculus Rift (checked), 2) Mirror rendering (not checked, but Condor screen is visible), and one adjustment 'Depth perception factor' ...

Impressions of VR with Meta Quest 2

I've been using Condor with a projector for 10 years now, and was hoping to run it in 3D with this projector with 3D shutter glasses but was never able to. I've been wanting to try VR for a few years to get stereo vision and better head-tracking but hesitated because I wear glasses and because of th...

Re: Experiences with forest maps

In Condor_Tiles, I've been experimenting with 'DetecTree', and it works quite well when the landscape textures are uniform, but not as well when tiles are in different seasons or dates. I've made some notes on the process.
