Re: Banned from competition for winning races ???

I'll also point out that Conrado streamed his flight on Youtube; it's still available to be watched there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKbEBRfLOFo The launch was by aerotow. His towplane towed him to a dying cloud upwind from the start, about 5km from the ridge where I got dropped. In the proces...

Re: USNS Task Briefings Fail

Really USNS has been running for many years now. Daniel is working on his Phd dissertation at the moment, so there's been some missed tasks lately. I agree; extra help would be nice. I'm willing to help; I'm an old hand at Condor and XC flying in general, but haven't drawn many tasks myself.

Re: RefreshGUIFromFlightPlan.RefreshGhosts when clicking Freeflight

I get this a lot; I tend to save the flight track with a descriptive name, but even if I don't I usually get this. Sometimes Condor will "hang" claiming it can't write to LastTrack.ftr at the end of the flight. Tonight that cost me submitting a long flight on USNS... grr... These two seem to be rela...

Re: External PDA wind not correct?

My take on this is that it a hole in Condor function. I spent a lot of money on my RL vario so I could have one that would provide decent wind data to my flight computer. So far TopHat seems to always believe that number, rather than compute it for itself. Maybe I'll go back to XCSoar, since it alwa...

External PDA wind not correct?

Has anyone noticed that the external PDA does not report the same wind as the one on Condor? Today I was doing some wave flying, where the winds aloft were higher than at the ridge tops, but my external PDA reported the same wind all the time. To make sure it wasn't the external PDA (running TopHat)...

Re: Vintage gliders on Condor

I stand corrected on the controls then. I have never seen a K3. Did you fly it? And if so, did you ever spin it? The Ka 2 and Ka 7 two seaters which I have instructed in quite a lot (not V tails,of course) were excellent for teaching spinning. Terrible poor lookout from the back seat though - that'...

Crazy Crash then online task unusable

Hi All, hopefully this is a one-time crash, but FWIW: I attempted to join an online race tonight but had a hang at the "Starting sound" point. Apparently my bluetooth speaker had gone haywire. Anyway, I restarted that bluetooth device in Windows, and got a crash report from Condor. The last lines in...

Re: MNS Europe 2013

Hi, it looks like the gliderracing.com forums have been hit by spammers the past several days.
Could someone look into booting these idiots off the board, and even deleting their useless posts?

Thanks...

Re: Wishes for future Condor developments

OK, I'll wade into this. There's two physics things that do bother me a bit with the Condor weather model. The first is that the wind is more or less uniform with height (it does seem to model wind shadows behind ridges though). It would be nice to be able to have wind shifts and gradients. I don't ...

Re: MNS West Coast

And awesome they are!

Last night I got disconnected near the end of the flight (was just about on final glide)
but finished offline. Can someone look into my uploaded flights since I'm still scored
with a 0 for the flight?

Thanks

Re: Waves in Condor...

Also to answer the original question: secondary peaks in a wave system set up when the wind strength
increases with height. Condor doesn't model this; about the only variation you see in wind strength is that
the wind speed may drop when close to the ground.

Re: Landing out in the suburbs...

If he was liable to make a mistake like that he should not have been flying solo . I have instructed at both flat and ridge sites, and at the latter you had to be absolutely sure that a pupil understood the dangers at a ridge site which do not exist on a flat one. If this hapless guy had had a bad ...

Re: Landing out in the suburbs...

Perhaps lost from the YouTube posting was that the pilot was a post-solo transition (from power) pilot. This was a flight some time after solo that was supposed to be supervised by an instructor. For our students off field landing training at this stage of instruction is very rudimentary; we go into...
