QGIS version problem

Post by rallyr » Mon Dec 31, 2018 2:35 pm

I'm building a landscape for the first time and following the directions carefully. It all failed on page 15, using QGIS to merge the USGS .BIL files. First, the latest version of QGIS, 3.4.3, has changed the menus and windows and no longer look like the tutorial, but that was easy enough to figure out. Then, the merge failed completely! After trying a few different things, I reverted to the previous version, 2.18.27, which looks the same as the tutorial, but failed with the same error. After scouting around a bit I found others having similar problems and downloaded 2.16.3, THIS WORKED PERFECTLY. (Note: I tried both 32 and 64 bit versions, and two different computers using both Windows 10 and Windows 7 with the same results.)

I realize that this is out of the control of the Condor Soaring, but a note in the tutorial regarding the version numbers of outside utilities would be helpful. With 2.16.3 I was able to complete the next steps inside QGIS and am moving on.

Thanks,
Mike Friedman
