winrar vs 7zip for sceneries

I notice many sceneries are released as rar files. Winrar is a proprietary format and the client a commercial app, so I wondered if its any better than 7zip, which is free and opensource. I used the Tian-Shan scenery and got these results:

Uncompressed: 1.03 GB
windows zip: 499,665 Kb
RAR normal compression: 419,943 Kb
RAR best compression: 419,620 Kb
7zip normal: 364,370 Kb
7zip ultra: 361,792 Kb

Does RAR have features for condor sceneries that 7zip lacks, or why are some of you still using winrar?
