QGS Print Composer
QGS Print Composer
When using QGIS Print Composer to select an make an image to make our texture with, on page 29 Landscape Guide using the tutorial example it says;
"Hide the tutorial_clipped raster layer and press Ctrl+P to open new Print Composer. Click on Composition and set page size preset to Custom and set the size to 200 x 200 millimeters. In the left toolbar click Add new map and place it on the canvas by clicking and dragging. Don’t worry that the content looks strange, we will sort this out later."
Using the tutorial example which is 2 x 2 terrain tiles so making the custom size of 200 x 200, this will then make it 100 for each tile, don't think that this setting is right, in the screenshot below I have saved 4 different setting and have saved them with the following file names;
0001_100_8192.png
0001_200_8192,png
0001_400_8192.png
0001_800_8192.png
Below are the settings used and saved for each .png tile;
0001_100_8192.png
custom map 100 x 100 mm
export resolution 2080 dpi - 8192 x 8192 pixels
0001_200_8192,png
custom map 200 x 200 mm
export resolution 1040 dpi - 8192 x 8192 pixels
0001_400_8192.png
custom map 400 x 400 mm
export resolution 520 dpi - 8192 x 8192 pixels
0001_800_8192.png
custom map 800 x 800 mm
export resolution 260 dpi - 8192 x 8192 pixels
As you can see from the screenshot the first one I think is too thick where you would not be able to create a road map layer for this particular 0001 texture, the second one 0001_200_8192.png I still think looks a little too thick, the other 2 look ok, what settings are others using for this part.

Re: QGS Print Composer
Use settings:
custom map 200 x 200 mm
export resolution 1040 dpi - 8192 x 8192 pixels
and set width of line for road 3 pixels (pen width) - then you get correct width when you export tile to condor (approx. 8,5m width of road in condor scenery)
Tile have 23040meters and if you use 8192px resolution then you get 2,8125m per 1px.

Re: QGS Print Composer
Thank you, the results look very good with the line set to 3 pixels, as you will see from the screenshot below, you will see a cyan colour (light blue) this is a railway line, what pixel width would you suggest to set for this, the dark blue line is a river again what pixel width would you suggest to set here, looking at the blue line which represents a river you can see that some of the curves are slightly jagged edges, is there a way or method where you will be able to make the bends in rivers look more smoothly or a natural bend that you would expect to see.maymar wrote: ↑Wed Apr 18, 2018 7:58 pmUse settings:

Again many thanks.

Re: QGS Print Composer
The screenshot below the pen width for roads has been set to 3 pixels, the river width has been set to 5 pixels not sure if this is a good size, also looking at the river there is no natural bend it all seems to be sharp and straight edges to it, is there anyway to edit or change a setting where the river has natural flow and bends in it.

Re: QGS Print Composer
not in QGIS - you can correct it by hand in graphic software ie. photoshop or gimp
Re: QGS Print Composer
Ok, thank you, have you done this process yourself.
Re: QGS Print Composer
No. In my part of terrain riviers dont have so sharp curves.
Try to download data from OSM waterway - rivierbank. Maybe this part of rivier have it.

Re: QGS Print Composer
Ok, thank you I will try OSM waterway - riverbank as you have suggested and will post a screenshot, what pixel width did you use for this.
Re: QGS Print Composer
Here is a screenshot of a different tile, I had used waterway as the key and riverbank as the value as you have suggested and looks great, the other 8 values for the waterway key I think will not be needed, I have set a pixel width for the riverbank value at 6 pixels which I think looks ok.
