V2 UTMCalc Tool
V2 UTMCalc Tool
It is a known fact that when creating Condor sceneries that cover more than one UTM zone it can cause problems.
In my case making sceneries for the UK, including Scotland will cover UTM zones 29, 30 and 31. The problem can be surmounted by working on one UTM zone only. In the case of South East England keeping all UTM coordinates to UTM 30. The same for Scotland even though part is in UTM 29.
The V2 UTMCalc tool for a Scotland scenery correctly states the UTM coordinates for the Top Left as a UTM 29 and the Bottom Right coordinates in UTM 30. Unfortunately the rest of the calculation does not produce a correct UTM tile chart for the scenery. This is no big deal as a Condor tile map can be created manually with all UTM coordinates in the same zone. The tile sizes then will work out at 23.040 km OK.
The UTM tool is working correctly IF you are working in the same UTM zone, so no fault here. But, is it possible for the tool to be amended such that the calculations can be made to work in one UTM zone if requested?

Re: V2 UTMCalc Tool
If the landscape spans over multiple zones, UTMtools will calculate the zone where most of the scenery is located (for 2 zones) or where the center of the landscape is (for 3 zones) and will use this zone for calculating the borders in the given zone. However, there seems to be a bug that causes incorrect zone to be used if both longitudes are negative.
I think I fixed it and have updated UTMtools.exe, but it isn't available for download yet. For the time being, try to enter the coordinates, have everything calculated and then enter them again and calculate again. At the first run it should give you incorrect zone 31, but on the second the calculation it should give you correct zone 30. Once this happens, you can use the button for changing the zone and switch between 29 and 30, if needed.

Thanks JBr, that tip worked a treat.
Now I have just got to get QGIS to work (I did have the input file type correct).

Re: V2 UTMCalc Tool
Hi All!
First I selected the bottom left corner of the scenery. (21x19 Tiles)
East: 308878 +(21x23040) = 76638 West
Sout: 5364583 +(19x23040) = 5848423 North
438x484km
The "Podkarpackie.bil" I save as ".tiff" file > Rows:16128 ; Columns:14592 > can be divided by 768 without the rest
I made .trn file, but I culd'nt save as .bmp file for hight map
I try convert, (save as) the .bil and .tif file to .bmp in QGIS in OPENEV, in IMAGEwiever but not managed
For the last time it managed open the .tif file in Microdem, I could add to elevation colors (255) and I add VMP0 Shape files (Waters, rivers, roads, realways, cities..... and it managed save as .bmp file. It would be 706MB .
I checked my Podkarpackie.tif file in Microdem > coordinates of scenery > and I opened in UTMtools, and I made a calibration file...
I tried with Lurik's tool... can not handle the 30m res. .hdr files...
I got near the baseline parameters back. I think it is good resault...

Re: V2 UTMCalc Tool
Hi Jiri,
Can you please email me a copy of your UTMtools.exe tool?
Unfortunately, it is no longer available for download from the Downloads page!
Without the above tool, unfortunately, it would be very difficult for me to resume/continue my training [on how to create Landscapes for Condor V2] that is based entirely on your "CONDOR LANDSCAPE GUIDE TO CREATING LANDSCAPES FOR CONDOR V2" manual.
Anyway, I look forward to continuing my training... soon as I can download or otherwise receive via email attachment that UTMtools executable that you referenced throughout your training guide.
Thanks,
Joe Todaro

Hi Joe, all my tools are still there. Look for Landscape utilities by Jiří Brožek at http://www.condorsoaring.com/downloads-2/
Re: V2 UTMCalc Tool
HI Jiri,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Unfortunately, I am still unable to access your /downloads-2/ directory, I'm guessing it's because I wasn't given the necessary permissions when I first Registered.
Anyway, whenever I copy the following URL into the address bar: http://www.condorsoaring.com/downloads-2/
It always gets translated to this: http://www.condorsoaring.com/
No matter what I do (using either Chrome or Explorer), the /downloads-2/ directory component of the path is always getting truncated.
Even when I click on Support | Downloads, my browser is always taking me here: http://www.condorsoaring.com/
What am I wrong wrong?
Thanks for getting back to me.

Thanks Chris!
Bad news: Clearing all cookies for condorsoaring.com within Google Chrome - did not help!
Good news: After downloading/installing and using Firefox as as temporary workaround - it worked like a charm!
Anyway, I'll just have to debug this issue further when I get some time. Meanwhile I have a workaround. Hooray!

Hi Jiri
(Follow-up) Thanks to Chris Wedgwood, I was able to come up with a workaround to the above anomaly: Basically, it turns out that Google Chrome was the culprit. And that Firefox was the answer. See above for Chris' suggestion, along with our workaround. Thanks Chris!

Re: V2 UTMCalc Tool
It does work on Chrome. I'd suggest rechecking condorsoaring.com and also www.condorsoaring.com cookies.
Or pm Tom, as he's the Cookie Monster.

Re: V2 UTMCalc Tool
I know. In fact, Chrome worked for me too about a week ago when I first downloaded CondorLandscapeGuide_rev1a_en.7z. Then about a week later, I go to download JBrTools.7z and, surprise, I was unable to get to that same /download-2/ subdirectory. Hmm, go figure.
Anyway, I will heed your suggestion about rechecking condorsoaring.com and also www.condorsoaring.com cookies. And then if that doesn't work, I will pm Tom.
Thanks again for all your help, Chris! I really appreciate it!

Hey Chris,
(Follow-up) Thanks so much! ... I did as you suggested, and it worked this time! ... Now I won't have to occasionally switch back and forth between Chrome and Firefox!

Re: V2 UTMCalc Tool
Sorry to bring up an old topic but this UTMtools fix has not worked for me and I would like to start to try and play this scenery game as well!!! Is there another way I have not spotted?
